Description

Welcome to the nineteenth week of the 52 weeks of Christmas!!! What is the 52 weeks of Christmas you might ask? I will be giving away a new game each week for 52 week. To make things more fun, I will be asking a new question each week also. I hope that by doing this I may brighten someones week. I even create a group on Steam where you can follow every giveaway(link at the bottom).I hope you will have as much fun as I do with this.

New Week, New Question

What do you do about straight console port, not bad ports just straight console port? Check this comment by Dead Spacedevs do you agree with them? Would you buy Dead Space 3 now?

Response

I do not mind straight port as long as they are done well. The game got to be optimized, controls and graphics options got to be able to be modified. However an optimal and dedicated port is what every company should strive for.

Not adding new features capable by the platform to make sure that your whole audience has the same experience is a bad excuse. I would much rather have them say that they did not add anything because they did not want too than to say that. Many multiplatform games that come out on console are different from one another including Dead Space 3. Whether it is Kinect support, move support, games always have some type of different on different platform. Since they said that they wanted the games to have the same experience on all platform, they should remove achievements/trophy support for the moment until it is available on pc or Kinect support on the Xbox.

I will buy a straight port and will enjoy the game. I won’t buy it at full price and I probably will not buy any additional content for the game.

Weeks of Christmas

God bless. :)

Thanks again and God Bless!

  • To the question, the point presented in that dev article is very good; I agree with the idea of an equal experience on both consoles, but I do appreciate a better experience for any game, so I'm kinda on the fence about ports haha, but a port if anything is a good thing.

As long as it's playable and fun, I'm fine with game companies porting their games over from a console. I prefer that over no game at all. But I'd like for them to do at least a little work on it to make things run smoothly, instead of just making a half-assed port that's full of bugs and shoddy controls.

Thanks for the great giveaway, and God bless!

Thank You!

Regarding the question, it seems an odd PR decision to basically say "We could make the game better but we opted not to, isn't that great?". That said, I understand them not wanting to look like they favour one platform over another and, as long as they don't make any of the versions noticeably worse, I don't think it's that big a deal. It's certainly not as bad as some of the other stuff EA has done.

My response was initially "oh well", as long as it's equivalent to the console version I'm fine (though that necessitates visual options to help the game run on more systems),but I don't think it's a good idea. (having done some 3D modeling I know you already have high quality textures and models and downscale them for purpose)
Then someone pointed out "Dead Space 3, Better with Kinect", Dead Space 3 will have kinect support, thus making the xbox version superior, and thus throws their entire argument out the window.

As for whether I'll buy it anyway, not relevant, I'm not the target demographic and am not really into gore-fests.

I hate straight console ports. I buy games for the computer because I do not want to use a controller. I want to be able to customize my controls, to change settings. I want dedicated servers, I want mods and custom maps from other fans.

All systems should be the same? That's great! Thank you for trying to reduce online flaming! No other company thinks of all the people who get upset because they are talking on the internet. How nice of them to for doing their part in making the world a better place. Say goodbye to console wars!

I'm going to buy it now and enjoy my time with it just like everyone else. Next weekend I have to go over to see my parents back home. I'll take the game with me, since it should run the same on any system I can't wait to play it on my folks old Pentium 2. What a blast!

No really, this is as great of an idea as Razer's attempt from a year ago to standardize PC gaming. When I make my choice for a particular gaming system I do it to take the advantages of it over the other systems. Next thing you'll tell me that you will make it the same for Wii U? You will not use the controller or are you going to use magic so the other platforms will simulate the controller?

A couple of weeks ago I said that I wanted that all content for a game to be on every system the game is. Of course if it makes sense. I can imagine that there could be levels and mechanics for the Wii U that can't be replicated without the controller. That's perfectly acceptable.
Also whatever happened to "It's better with Kinect"? Wait ... I can't say that with a straight face.

This thing has been a PR fail basically. I doubt they actually believe that.

I'm hoping that the game fails, at least to a degree. Not because of this, but because of the other controversy that it has.

Thanks xamon! Better late than never.
