Don't make steam friends with me, I don't doubt that you're a nice guy but I'm grumpy, don't do multiplayer or trades, and nothing is more annoying than someone trying to chat with you when you're trying to play a game. So make sure your registered email is up to date.

Steam automatically adds users as friends when one sends a gift to other and the other one accepts the gift.

I haven't had that experience when sending an inventoried game via email.

In my experience, it does add person as a friend, but I think only after they add the gift to their library.
