Polterguy... that's Haunting on Genesis/Mega Drive! Never did get past the second or third house but loved the animations and chasing people around with a possessed chainsaw.

Exactly that. Liked watching all these animations but don't remember completing the game. Those ectoplasm sections weren't as fun as the core gameplay :(
