Ok, in case anyone is still reading this: I talked to someone who's finished this game on console, and they said once you get to chapter three, stop doing the main quest stuff, whatever that means. Oh, and the fishing is fun. Sorry, that's all I know about this game. :)

Nah. The GTX 770 is in a weird place where it is powerful for the generation it's from, but while it lacks the more modern architecture and full DX12 support and such, it still manages to wrestle against high end titles today. Maybe not at max detail and 140+ fps but those cards are like classic boxers who refuse to get out of the game, and still kick a bit of ass even if they're not in their prime any more, haha <3
(biased, because I owned one up until before christmas and I struggled to justify an upgrade due to the performance increase VS the prices you pay, but those cards are still hanging in there!)

I went back and forth between getting a 1080p G-Sync and the 1440p one I actually ended up getting. Only very briefly considered a 4K one.
But I'm stuck on non-native 1080p anyway in the more demanding games, until I can get a new GPU 😢
Looking forward to seeing what nvidia come up with this year (April, maybe?), especially if they can sort out the stupid crypto-currency situation 🙄

Not sure. I'm pretty sure the RAM was at fault (mem test confirmed), but whatever the ultimate source, the HDD is toast. It was an old config as it was, and I feel I'd be better off starting from scratch, but yeah, costs are super high. :/

RAM is expensive, but not anywhere near the level of GPUs. It's also not showing any signs of diminishing in price any time soon. You could also OC your CPU, and likely get another year of great performance out of it.

Yeah, I used to have it overclocked to umm, 4.something, but since I don't play brand new games too often there didn't seem to be much point in keeping it that way. Plus at some point I got sick of fooling around with the water-cooling and went back to a boring fan thing. Oh well. :)

You can actually buy RAM. GPUs are either out of stock, or 50-150% more expensive.
For example:
The RX 580 has an MSRP of $229. The lowest price I could find for one right now is $409.
The GTX 1060 3GB is $199 MSRP. The lowest currently available model is $415
The $249 GTX 1060 6GB is currently selling for $475.
The $379 GTX 1070 is currently $700.
The $400 RX Vega 56 is currently $1000.

Well I ran it now. Here's what I got. I hope once the game releases there would be more options than standard and high, and same for resolutions. That way I might find something in between that works better. Although looking at it even in standard it looked good.

You can also use a workaround in order to run the benchmark at custom resolutions, 2560x1440 for me. It runs fine, too.

HardwareCanucks did a comparision between the i7-2600k and the i7-8700k in games. With a GTX 1070, there's almost no performance difference. There's bottleneck for a GTX 1080 TI at 1080p but the gap closes at higher resolutions.
