Its more popularly known as a visual novel. This one is a low tier VN. If you're interested, there are some really good visual novels out there. My favorites are Majikoi, Grisaia and Baldr series. You don't just mash buttons, some good VNs have excellent voice acting which makes you listen to each dialogue, you only click after you've done listening to one verse and its a great alternate for reading a story book because in a story book, you visualize everything yourself but in a visual novel, the writer adds the background, the voices, the music, the characters, the atmosphere so you can almost feel what the writer wants to say. But then again, it depends upon a person's interest. I'm glad you did play it though :)
