Xcom Enemy Within, although I can't play worth a dime, it's pretty fun to watch a professional play

yup DLC (which I'm still waiting for a discount - might be waiting forever though). It has a new resource called meld, which unlocks mechs and gene augmentations, plus a bunch of other stuff.

But the Real reason is that there's a Mod call Long War that makes it super interesting. Bigger, better enemies, many tweaks to weapons and grenades. It's practically another expansion pack

I've heard that Enemy Unknown has it, but couldn't find it still

Not trying to influence you and all, but if you Do get the mod, there's this YTer named Beaglerush whom showcases the mod. Fanboy-ism aside, i suggest checking out a random video just to see Long War in effect

The original StarCraft, SC2 was good but not as good as the original.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown was pretty good too.

Pretty similar to Supreme Commander, haven't played Dawn of War. I find the gameplay in StarCraft much faster than Supreme Commander, but that might just be me. I tend to play that much slower, gather larger armies like I did in StarCraft.

Yes, its based in the future. In the original StarCraft, the humans are a group of exiled humans sent to a far off sector of the galaxy and left to fend for themselves, thats where they encounter 2 alien species. There are no real experimentals in StarCraft, though there are heavier units that take a while to produce due to the tech tree and cost.
I find the resources in Supreme Commander to be very slow, resulting in slow production.

Thank you for the giveaway!

Favourite strategy game? I don't normally play many, but I do enjoy Civilization Revolution for Xbox 360.... Don't have a reason or a story though.... Also I have no clue how to post GIFs, so, sorry 3:

Oh! Thank you for the link! To be honest, I never really thought to search for it. Thank you again.

I'm going to have to agree with some of the other commenters and say Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within is my favorite, but I also love FTL. I tried to get into the Civ series but I'm absolutely terrible at it. I'm looking forward to checking out Invisible Inc now that it's had an official release.

No real favorites, however I did enjoy total war series, civ 4, galactic civilization 2, fallout 2... Actually so many that it is kinda pointless to name them all. There hasn't been many good ones from recent years though.

I stress out on strategy games so badly that Warcraft 2 remains my favorite. Simplest, often the gentlest in pacing, but I loved building my bases.

Yup, C&C Red Alert 1, 2 and 3.
The first Red Alert is about Einstein inventing a time machine, and going back to kill Hitler. Which allowed Soviet to conquer Europe, as there was no Third Reich to act as a "buffer". Then the US and its allies counterinvade Europe and it turns into a tug of war.
Then Red Alert 2 is about a blitzkrieg invasion of the US by Soviet after a Soviet psychic detonates all of the US nuclear weapons. So, kinda over the top.

Uh that's a hard question... There are several rts games I adore, but the Total War series took the most of time out of me I guess. I still remember the epic battles back in Total War Rome.... nostalgic

Yep, TA is the spiritual father of SupCom. In TA, you have this streaming economy but the scale is less larger (Because in 1997, we didn't have powerful computer, hehe) and you can have 200 units at the same time (IIRC). But it is set in the far future and the two faction are really varied thought you have only one experimental type unit, the Krogoth.
Still, it is a really good game that laid the foundations for many RTS games. If you can, you should really give it a try. And don't forget both expansions, especially Core Contingency. ;)

It has been a long time since I played it. As far as I remember you get resources by capturing critical points and building power plants. Campaign is pretty explanatory and easy. BTW, if you playuthe skirmish for the first time, the game asks you to play a small tutorial. Maybe, you skipped that tutorial.

Then you should play single player campaigns to get used to the units. Almost every bunch of unit and squads are customizable.

StarCraft, the first one and C&C Red Alert 2 + expansion. There is just something about a squid attacking a US carrier in Pearl Harbor that gets a good laugh out of me.

It features many games, I started with Tiberian Sun in 1999 and stopped after Generals. In between was Red Alert 2.
I won Red Alert 3 - Uprising though here on SG and I'm going to try that one soon, hope it will be as awesome as the games I mentioned here, although I doubt it :P

Occasionally I still play Generals with friends on LAN :)

The best one for me is Command and Conquer: Red Alert. Partly because of nostalgia and partly because it's way better (IMHO) than Age of Empires.
