What's the point of creating a giveaway for people that already gave away a $200+ worth of games? One would think that such people could afford to just buy the game as opposed to taking their chances in a giveaway.

I'm interested in knowing the reasoning behind that statement. Don't get me wrong - I'm not criticizing you. I'm just trying to understand the reasons that cause people to create giveaways. Is it to give a chance to have a game to people that cannot afford it? Is it because for some reason you have games in your inventory that you don't like? High threshold certainly filters out freeloader.

Some people like to make contributor giveaways simply as a reward to other people who have also given games away. Also, the higher the contributor amount, the higher chance to win as there are less entries.
Sometimes you can wind up with extra copies of a game and so gift them away, other times people buy games on sale solely for the purpose of gifting them to others. Although those who give away lots of games could technically afford to buy the game for themselves, they may find it more fun to win it or may be unsure as the whether they will truly enjoy the game, so attempt to win it in a giveaway to try it.

The people who really really want this and have high contributions probably already own it. This giveaway is for those who want it enough to enter a giveaway, but not enough to buy it directly. Besides, winning feels great, and playing a great game feels better if you got it as a gift.
