As a big fan of racing games and owner of heavily used logitech G29 , I would like to say that it's not true.
Many probably think they are the next Colin Mcrae just after winning championship in Dirt Rally.. but it does not really translate to life .. As anything in games. You could grasp some concepts of course, but you'de have to try them in real life as well to be able to do it.
Lately I've been playing a lot Euro Truck Sim. I have indicators mapped as buttons on the steering wheel. I've cought myself trying to press the buttons on steering wheel for indicators in my car as well.. So stuff probably does translate over as muscle memory, but I highly doubt it's anything worthwhile to consider as significant.
