I dont know how the post maker is going about it. But at my local LAN centers they were giving out codes for like a 4 day trial or something along those lines.

Trion had a deal a while ago ... they were selling the retail boxes for about $15usd without the month included. Marketing gimmick because if you added a month in, it would total the same amount they were selling the box with the free month. If this is from that, I don't think it's a Steam key.

I know that Steam and Trion Worlds (the developer of Rift) both ran sales on the game briefly during the summer where they would sell the game at a seemingly tempting discount $5 vs the regular product with gametime was discounted to $20, except in the description/fine print it would indicate that there was no gametime included. Since the subscription rate is $15 / mo., it ended up not being much of a discount at all.
