I got 2 keys when i bought this pack and only used 1. Sadly i forgot which key i used and which i didnt but i think it was this one. If it was not let me know and il send u the other one.
Edit: Come to think about it, you may be right. He should just try to activate with whichever key. If it's valid, the Steam client will say that he already owns the game. If it's not, it may say "duplicate key". Probably no risk in trying, but it might not provide a clear answer.

I think it says "You already own this game" regardless of key being duplicate or not.

In library on the right you can see serial number but not to all games.
