Your computer just understands sequences of zero and ones which represent "machine code", and most programming languages which is made for us to read and write, is broken down into assembly code which is also kind of like for us to read and write but closer to what the machine speaks, and then that is directly translatable to the machine code which is the language the computer understands.
And really, it's actually quite similar to how we humans work. We have a bunch of connected neurons in our body that pass electrical signals to each other to share and store information, and the computer also uses electricity and the connection of a bunch of different chips (which are just a bunch of logic gates) to basically do the same thing.
