Same here. Well, my comment wasn't really different from a thank you comment, but at least I want to let the creator know I took time to make it at least as personal to state that I am the first to comment.
I made a giveaway and jokingly said I'd blacklist people who won't comment, yet most ppl said nothing.
Either way the community has room for improvement.

Yes yes, I wasn't saying your comment was spam, just that I agreed with the fact that an abscense of comments is to not flood OP's message box.

I did made a GA lately and stated that bland "thank you" comments will result in black listing, I was hesitant about this but was curious, only got 1 of those... so though luck for that guy, lol.

It was nice to only have 1, I have done it in the past and I that time I got several comments like that, that time I didn't blacklist anyone, it's hard for me to blacklist someone, but when I do is because they've earned it.

Considering the comments are personal and not just a thank you bot or a thank you including the creator's name, which is no better imo, I wouldn't think of it as spam.
There's a script to block out the thank you comments btw.

Regardless of if the individual message is spam or not, the massive wall of alerts certainly is.

And as far as a script goes:
1: It's rude to block someone who is thanking you. You shouldn't counter rudeness with rudeness! Besides, if you do that, you won't know who to glare at in future giveaways [especially if they didn't read your 'no generic thank yous' condition].

2: You'd have to find and bother installing the script, nevermind knowing it existed in the first place, and being 'forced' to do that FIRMLY VALIDATES the comments as being spam :P

3: There's always the chance it'll filter out something it shouldn't, unless it's a strict keyword match/max characters conditional. And even then, what if we don't MIND generic thank yous from people we know?

Besides, you're seeming to feel a need to defend your position.

I never said giving generic gestures of gratitude wasn't acceptable, welcomed, or anything unpositive [though I will note that they're blatantly unoriginal by their nature- it'd be far more interesting if they showed any indication of being thought out, rather than being declared by rote; though some giveaway givers likely appreciate them solely because they are such, so; again, no argument against them that isn't subjective];
I was just indicating one of the likely reasons there weren't comments before yours, being that there are three different major approaches to responding to matters such as these.

..the third approach being, that some people are just jerks who don't even consider showing gratitude at any point :X Hopefully not too many of the non-commenters were not-commenting for that reason, though.
