In reference to the above link, here's a comment from that thread explaining how to avoid trouble with giftlinks:
Do not generate a key or gift link (either one) until you are ready to deliver said key/gift link to your winner.
Deliver the key/gift link as soon as it is generated.
If your winner claims that the key has been used, tell HB that you generated the key/link and immediately gave it to your friend, but he says it is invalid. Ask for a reset of that key/link so that you may try again, then return to step #1.
