Great question... I think it was Starcraft on a really old system around 2001 with Internet with a 256kbps modem (god, that awful thing).
I had another RTS by SIERRA I think, but I don't remember its name and Wikipedia list didn't ring a bell... it was a modern war theme, with modern tanks and planes in the jungle.
EDIT: Found it! It was called GROUND CONTROL

256kbps sounds nice for 2001 .. remember my 14,4 baud modem on my AMIGA or later the 28,8 baud on the 386er :D
Starcraft was a nice LAN Game .. but I prefered Command and Conquer or Age of Empires :D

I cant remember if it was 256 kbps actually, I just thought that's so damn low nowadays, I must have had something of sorts! Maybe even 128 kbps I was around 12 years old, can't remember too much details! lol
But anyway, remember those times with a phone modem? At least my mom had installed a new phone line to avoid people from picking up the phone and cutting the Internet connection altogether, lol. We also had a quite little download cap, around 500mb a month maybe? As I said, I don't remember much details tbh

oh yeah, you're right !
not on college, but at the swimming pool :-)

Lol. I know what you mean, but they had arcade machines in the student center game room, right next to the dining hall. Now, I don't recall the pool having games. Maybe that was because my public pool days at the local recreation center were before gaming existed.

Well, that was probably predated by Pong and Space Invaders on Atari. But, Galaga was way more fun.
