I like the horror movies where a group of friends go on a vacation somewhere and murder happens. It's relate-able. Not in the sense of getting murdered, but in the sense of going on a vacation with friends and something exciting happening.

It is a lot more fun to watch horror movies with friends, it's probably the only time I ever do it.

horror games can be intense.. the vibe in RE 7 for example is quite evil
Horror movies on the other hand I find to be kinda amusing and funny!
So I like them both.
Thanks for sharing Dragoons!

As a rule, no. I'm not a fan of a lot of the tropes of those games and movies, especially the fake jump scares. The cat in the locker from Alien is the famous one, but sometimes they just have the music getting really loud as someone opens a door, or a disembodied scream that's never explained. Real jump scares are alright when there's a reason to jump, but I always feel cheated when it's just for the sake of manipulating the audience. And a lot of the games tend to have intentionally bad controls to increase the sense of fear - Resident Evil is the classic example. I'd rather have something be a good game first and then also scary, rather than sacrifice game mechanics for a few extra scares.
There are some good ones - I like F.E.A.R. and John Carpenter's The Thing, for example. And I like some of the movies that are on the sillier end, like Final Destination and The Purge. But in general, if you tell me something's horror, I'm going to pass on it.

That's a good response! You really know what you like. I agree though, if I play a horror game, I don't want random jump-scares unless they're necessary. Atmospheric horror games like F.E.A.R are things I would definitely prefer playing. That being said I'm not big into horror games. Do not like being scared.

I prefer thrillers over horror -- there's a distinction -- but, yeah, some horror films are alright. As for games, a very well-done paranormal segment is in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines when the character goes to the Ocean House Hotel to complete "The Ghost Haunts at Midnight" quest.

Yeah, that's a good segment. There are quite a few jumpscares, but all of them are also very real and deal damage to you. It's small damage, but just seeing the red flashes and your life bar slowly dropping makes it a very tense sequence.

Games no, movies some. I prefer comedies

I like them because I like stories of the supernatural, but I hate jump scares so I usually watch others play the games instead of playing them myself.

I used to dislike horror in all its incarnations -- pretty much on principle, because I couldn't feature myself enjoying such a negative emotion as fear. But then I actually played a few Resident Evils, watched a few horror classics, and realized A) they're not that scary, and B) they're basically dark, gritty, stylized fantasy. That's something I can get behind.
I'm not particularly into gore, although I'll tolerate it. I prefer creepy, low-key horror, like "The Last Door" or "Silence of the Sleep" (for games) and "The Blair Witch Project" or "Get Out" (for movies).

No.
Movies I don't find particularly scary, but I don't find them particularly exciting either.
Games are utterly terrifying and I cannot play them at all. I'll panic at every change in the music and every scary sound effect, and Alt-F4 long before encountering the first actual threat.
I do sometimes like watching other people play them though. I had fun with Markiplier's attempts at surviving in Monstrum.
