I got a little thrown, as someone who has never played a Diablo, the hint about the shield had me looking at shield runewords as well as the runeword suggested... plus the runeword also being the name of a cipher also threw me. Great stuff

I wanted to use the Enigma Cipher but it didn't work with numbers... so I went with what I did... and then I didn't have any numbers >>
also what shield hint(need to know so I can try to stealthily clean it up).
I know I had the 3os MP(mageplate body armour) hint on the imgur description, poll options are just NPC dialogue, etc...

Ah, nvm then, it was a full on lack of understanding of diablo and misdirection from google. I thought the hint specifically said shield for some reason.

that part was trial and error(its why I gave the hint that it uses a key), but a good chunk of ciphers don't utilize a key word in their encryption.
also on the image mouseover I recommended cryptii so you could easily just input the text and switch ciphers until you found the right one.

That was a devious puzzle, but that just made solving it all the more satisfactory! As a relative newbie, I felt like I learned a lot from it which I can apply to other puzzles. Thanks for the puzzle and the GA train! :D

I never played Diablo, but I managed to find out what the runes were thanks to Google Reverse Image Search, and then I found the key for the encrypted text in the wiki page for the runes. At first, I was confused because the one in the left looked like a weird Mannaz rune to me, and I couldn't really make out what the one in the right was supposed to be.

aaaaahhhh, okay. I was using jahithber, not the actual name of what it would be in the mage plate. My helpful site was https://d2runewizard.com/bases/tors/Mage%20Plate which, based on Marvash's tool, feels convoluted. I did see it was called Enigma prior and thought that was a funny coincidence.

some fancy tools out there for newer players I see, neat seeing what people ended up using to solve this.
this(this one is definitely intended for more experienced players just wanting a reference guide)... its grown quite a bit since I last used it and attached
are about all I use when I play ladder... I mostly do randomizers now though... which can be hilariously busted... oh a level 5 unique... grants 6 auras, +5 all skills, etc... and go absurd with everything(player count beyond 8, monster density 10x+ normal, and so on).

I had to visit a bunch of different posts when looking up the answers to your clue and it's crazy how active D2 still is. There's still quite an active trading scene as well (of people looking for 3os paladin armor of course). I'm definitely rusty with my D2 knowledge and forgot about runewords and even what 3os is. I haven't played D2 probably since the early 2010s and D3 I probably haven't touched since 2018? I never went that hard witb D2 + LoD either so I got a bunch of "oh my god I remember that" along with "what in gods name are you guys talking about". Like that tool you linked is very daunting.
