i had translated your sentence with my limited knowledge and my brain read think instead of thing when i realized i decided to use google translate and it told me that "you knew it was a bad thing to say"
I don't understand why it say this (mean would say signify in french but not in this sentence )
Oh, I get it now! Yes, well, I just felt bad for essentially telling you that I wasn't going to give you the key after all. So it's just me acknowledging that I know I'm doing a cruel thing. I don't know. Something like that! Sorry for the confusion!
