Also on Windows 10 - when you boot the game and get a D3D error, there is a simple fix.
open SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Unreal II The Awakening\System\Unreal2.ini and here find and replace ReduceMouseLag=True on ReduceMouseLag=False
Same applies if you try XMP
