Stellaris is a blast, my partner and I are finishing up a 900-year campaign soon.
I love ES2 for those same reasons, actually, though I haven't spent as much time with it as I should like.
MOO1+2 are classics, to be sure! Have you heard of Interstellar Space:Genesis? It's supposed to be a lot like those games and from the little I've played (just the tutorial) it definitely has similar vibes. I look forward to getting to grips with it soon.
One of my favourite lesser-known 4X games, particularly because it actually has tactical combat. Hope whoever wins this is excited to play!

It's hard to say. I played a lot to Stellaris, that I love for its excellent tutorial and global system.
Then Endless Space was a real blast too, I liked the ambiance and races and music so much.
But my favorite is proably Master Of Orion 2. The Antarians were so hard to beat (and 1st time you do NOT expect them) but boy I loved this game :)
