Altruism doesn't directly relate to generosity, but to a willingness to give at the expense of yourself, to those in need.
Moreover, more than the nature of the actions taken, altruism relates to performing those actions out of an idealistic level of concern for others.
(Stopping at the side of the road to help someone injured, going to work with doctors without borders, and donating to charity could all be considered altruistic actions.)
Munificent may be a more suitable word choice, as munificence refers to being excessive in one's generosity.
