I don't like rum, but bumping the thread for the dear friends here. :)

Rum mixed with Coke is great man!
The best alcohol I ever had was home brewed though.

Update 1 (following on from the previous page's comment)
Rather than ordering a bottle of my favourite rum (Rumbullion!) or taking a chance on another new one, I decided to order 10 small sample bottles of various rums. Some that I have been wanting to try for a while, others that I had never heard of but received good reviews or sounded interesting.
Dark Matter Spiced Rum
Crazy spicy! Nice, but maybe too spicy for its own good. Like when you get those ginger beers which have too much real ginger, and it blows your socks off. Like that, but with spicy rum. I do like my spiced rum, but this was a bit much for me. Had to pile in a few ice cubes to take the edge off, and eventually found a good drinking balance.
Wei Ron
A bit disappointing. Nothing special really. The kind of rum you could drink on ice and bear with it, or mix and have a reasonable rum & coke. But something you would quickly forget about.
Don Papa Small Batch
Really nice and sweet. Interesting flavour, haven't tasted anything like it before. Possibly too sweet? Hard to say with such a small sample bottle. Would like to try more. I found there's a 10 year bottle available, but it's pricey. Might have to try it one day though.
More to come...

The 10 samples were very interesting! I'll definitely order more in the future when I head back to the UK, or have any friends on a trip. A short report on all 10 rums has been added :-)

Update 2 (following on from the previous page's comment)
Foursquare Spiced Rum
Excellent rum! Very good flavour, a nice level of spice, and very smooth. Easy to drink neat and enjoy the taste. Definitely need to buy a full bottle soon.
Brugal Dry Spiced
Quite a unique spiced taste, and its good! Decent smooth drink. Probably worth buying a full bottle if I can find for a reasonable price.
Chairman's Reserve Spiced Rum
Another good spiced rum. Pretty strong spice level, maybe too spicy for some. But with a little ice it became a very smooth and enjoyable sipping rum.

Bump for Threepw00d's updates (and for 3 GAs hiding there in plain sight !)

Update 3
Jagertee Liqueur
Took a chance on something very different. Sounded interesting, and it is indeed an interesting sipping liqueur. An odd taste of tea and rum, but surprisingly smooth and east to drink. I can't say I would rush out to buy a bottle, but it was a nice drink to try. Apparently it's made from mixing overproof rum with seeds, spices, nuts, black tea, orange, red wine and often plum brandy. I've since read that it can be drunk hot too, which might make a really good winter drink.
Admiral Vernon's Old J Spiced Rum Spirit Drink
As soon as you open the bottle, you're hit with TOFFEE. I've never experienced such a strong smell or taste of toffee before trying this rum. It's alright, for a sweet spirit, but it's hard to taste any rum to be honest. Just so much goddamn toffee. It was ok for a little break from the rum tasting, but this really isn't what I was looking for. If you love your super sweet toffee-flavoured liqueurs, maybe this will suit you.

Update 4, the final samples
There are good rums, and there are great rums. And then there are legendary rums. And then there's Rumbullion, a rum that has sat proudly at the top of my favourites list for some time now. As if the original Rumbullion wasn't already amazing enough, they also produce two more variations of their exquisite concoction. I haven't had the pleasure of buying full bottles yet, but finally got myself the samples to try:
Ableforth's Rumbullion! Navy-Strength
Another beauty from Rumbullion! It's getting hard to place these amongst each other, the Rumbullion taste is just out of this world. A fantastic sipping rum, strong and deep bodied flavour, a wonderful flavoursome spice. More please!
Professor Cornelius Ableforth's Rumbullion! XO 15 Years Old
This 15 year old batch is simply divine. A superb rum full of flavour, and what a flavour! It perhaps delivers less of a spicy punch as the original rum, and that's a welcome change, making it an even smoother sipping rum. The sample wasn't enough. I need several bottles of this stuff in my collection. Rumbullion, in all 3 variations, remains the king of rums.

Thanks for posting these impressions. As always, they are very helpful. Makes me envious I can't get anywhere close to this selection locally, for now I'll settle to just adding some of you recommendations to my wishlist. And for sure, the first opportunity I get to buy a bottle of Rumbullion, I will. Really curious to try it.
BTW, I just ordered this book about rum. According to most reviews, it's a real page turner. Looking forward to it :-)

Interesting! I shall have a look in to that myself too.
Yes I found a good online shop recently that has a wide selection, and usually they charge quite a lot for delivery. But if I order several bottles, it's free delivery! Now lets see how long they will last, and if I can resist temptation..

My GA for The Spirit Underneath ends today. Here's one for Spirits :-)

Not sure what kinds of rum have you tried, I thought so too for many years, but all I tried was Bacardi white. As far as I know is the world's most popular "rum", yet it tastes like gasoline. Imagine my surprise when I finally had a taste of real rum.

Someone created recently a whiskey thread. I've been foolish enough to state there that I prefer Rum, and got the answer I deserved: create a rum thread !
So here it is. Are there rum lovers here ? For my part, I don't say no to a ti'punch (white rum with lemon and sugar), but what's really putting me on is old rum. My all-time favorites:
I have also good memories with some Diplomatico flavors. Also tried matured rum one time and found it really interesting, it's some kind of missing link between white rum and old rum. The flavor I tried was surprisingly good, but I can't remember the name (only that it came from Reunion island).

It's really hard to order everything exactly, as sometimes it depends on your mood. Aside from my definite favourite rum, the rest of the list is a little flexible, but I recommend them all! :-) Please let me know if you recommend any interesting spiced or dark rums in particular, I'm always keen to try new ones.

Thanks a lot to Yirg, threepw00d and caitsith2 for the (ended) GAs
