Hi,

I'm a returning player (I used to be active 8 years ago) and as you might know if you're OG users some stuff changed ever since. I've done a deep dive of the rules and now there's this Points system, I had over 500 points but upon reading of the 400 cap I'm just entering in a couple giveaway to get under that cap.

I have some spare games from Humble Bundles that I already own, but the whole "send the link/invite not the key" part isn't clear to me, anyone with Humble Bundles gifting experience can give me a hand? thankss

Giving the key is just fine.

Reveal the keys and gift them. It's easier

You can use a gift link (if available, I don't remember if that works with older stuff) or reveal the key and use that for a giveaway. Either works just fine as far as SteamGifts is concerned. :)

There was a moment when Humble Bundle were doing a witch hunt for "traders", some SG users who gifted a lot using links got marked by their system and people started debating if using gift links or keys was the better option but, as far as I'm aware, unless you're making hundreds of giveaways using games bought from Humble Bundle whatever method they're using to detect "traders" shouldn't cause you any trouble.

Oh ok! because I have probably 50+ games, some as old as 6+ years ago, I tried activating some random keys with friends and they still work so I'm assuming unless stated by the website the steam keys don't expire.

my best move is to simply reveal the key and give it to the user right?

I haven't been using HB either since they changed their monthly plan so I tought they might be able to verify who's account redeems who's key and flag if someone uses the redeem key instead of gift a friend button. you may never know.

I'd rather be cautios than risking my account :(

They're more likely, and much easier for them to track gift links than just game keys.

ok, I'll use the keys then, thank you! hope to bring lots of new giveaway once I figure out the rest :)

I don't want to end up banned and losing all the keys I have left on the site :(

At some point Steam started charging developers to create batches of new keys, so some developers re-use unused keys from previously sold batches after a while. If you're concerned about old keys not being usable anymore you can also give them away in groups such as LootBoy SG where participants know they're expected to agree to giveaway deletion if the key is no longer valid.

oh thank you so much! I will check with them, hopefully they have a list of what devs are worst offenders. I also have Origin and Ubisoft keys and so on. most are junk but I know there is market for people who need trading cards I guess

There's a thread that tries to keep track of the revoked Steam game keys here

I don't know if it helps, but I keep my steam account unlinked from HB for this reason, except when a free key rolls around or something i have to have steam linked to buy from the store (this happened once or twice in recent months).

The points are explained in the FAQ. Check the "Entering" section.

You get 6 points added to your account every 15 minutes. There is a 400 point cap, but if any points are returned to you, you can go over 400. So basically, if you are at or over 400 points you will stop receiving the 6 points every 15 minutes until your account drops below 400. If someone deletes a giveaway or if you remove yourself from a giveaway, those points are returned to your account and there is no limit on how many you can hold. If you win a giveaway, you will be removed from all other giveaways for the same game and all those points will be returned to you. If you add a game to your Steam account and sync your account here, you will automatically be removed from any giveaways you were entered in for the new games that you activated on Steam and those points will be returned to your account.

ok now I get the point drop, so on average every 24 hours I get well over 500P so I should try and spend all my points each day because they will refill over a day period.

a bit annoyed by the point cap at 50 but I guess that's what we have to work with. also my point cap don't increase with my level (I tought being level 4 I tought 4 -> 400, 5 -> 500 and so on. but that's not the case)

thank you!! :D

Although it's your choice, I would advise you to not enter giveaways just to "spend all your points each day". I would rather look for some games you are interested in or which you would like to play (because what's the point of getting trash, you won't ever touch).

But of course, if you want to, you can try to enter as many giveaways as possible.

I know at one point I had over 2K banked and 400 in my cap, and then I spent 2390 of them in 15 minutes.

I'd be interested in hearing others' top "scores"

ok I'll just click "show key" and hope that they are still working! as I said previously I did some testing with 8 years old keys and they still work so I hope most devs just leave them be. a user suggested me to leave a disclaimer in my giveaway just in case the key is expired and no negative action (like account strikes) should happen if I have to remove the giveaway at this point but I hope there won't be the need for it

Welcome back!

First of all, thank you for re-reading the rules before asking questions!! There are a lot of folks who just...don't. :/

Er, there have been some threads strongly warning people to not give gift links but instead give keys because if you distribute gift links too widely, humble support considers you a "trader" and has banned a number of folks who have only ever given away games via giftlink, and never traded. (The whole reddit humble bundle giveaway thread got people banned--not only from new purchases, but from what they had already purchased.)

For those from the EU who buy from HB https://reddit.com/r/humblebundles/comments/ibbean/my_experience_with_the_recent_ban_important_if

are a few of the threads

Also https://steamgifts.com/discussion/0OVYq/humble-bundles-politics-about-givingaway-and-attitude-to-this-important-problem-with-support

TL;DR do NOT use giftlinks for other than family and a few, select, and very close friends.

thank you very much for your time and help! I will paste from a previous comment:

idk if over time the site changed something but I don't see many AAA games being offered, or maybe it's just the new discovery queue that's different. my goal was to reach a higher level to enter higher tier giveaways, I'll see how much I can level up by giving my extra HB keys away here, also yeah for the point cap I just enter all the ones from my whishlist and then check the recomended page but it's always the same game over and over idk

Recommended used to be based on what you have previously entered, but CG changed that to be "what the community as a whole likes/what is currently popular" As a result, I have stopped using the recommended page for >90% of the time.

There still are unbundled giveaways, but they tend to be fewer and level 5 or higher. Also, CG changed things after much consideration to state that all HB Monthly giveaways are now "bundled" because of the crazy deals some folks get ($6 for 6 months of HB Choice, etc).
