Hi all, Firstly I would like to point out that I'm new here, and also I'm not sure if a thread like this exists so I decided to create this. Please notify me if I am doing something wrong, thanks.
Anyway, I just wanted to know if the odds of winning a giveaway is decreased by entering a higher valued giveaway. For example, if Magicka is up for grabs for 10P, and Warhammer 40000: Space Marine is up for 30P, assuming I enter both, will I have less of a chance of winning Warhammer 40000: Space Marine because it is of a higher value.
Also I know that if you submit games to Steamgifts you are more likely to win, but for now I would just like to know how this works.
Also thank in advance to all who respond.

Your chances of winning are purely based on how many people have entered the giveaway alongside you. And the only way giving games makes you more likely to win is by qualifying you for higher value contributor giveaways. Giving away games isn't a magic button to increase your chances to win.

Neither of those assumptions are true. Winning is random and that is all the logic behind it.

Since the winner is chosen by a computer, the logic behind this is not random but the result of a complicated but nonetheless deterministic algorithm

This^^
No true randomness with computers...the only one real random method used actually i'm aware of is the system used by online casino/poker room sites to shuffle decks and it is based on quantum physic.

The points in the mean time only determine how many games you can enter for at once. Top of the page shows how many points you have left to enter (next to "Account"); you regain these over time. But if you run out of points, you'll have to wait to enter more giveaways. So going for higher value games means you can enter for fewer giveaways.

Yes to the first because statistically more people enter higher valued giveaways. Yes to the second because of contrib value and possibly groups. Youve figured out the system. Congrats.

The ONLY thing that effects your chance of winning a giveaway is the amount of people who enter the giveaway. Nothing more.
