Local newspaper: 6 killed and 153 injured in Macau

From what I can gather from the various articles:
Looks like 5 dead and two missing in Macau, with at least 153 injured [>>], and 1 dead and at least 80 injured in Hong Kong [>>]
[Accuracy note: Earlier articles put injured count at 20 and 34 for Macau and Hong Kong, respectively, and are still the more-often reported numbers.]

That's so sad. I hope the affected people can rebuild their lives after this.

It surely takes time. Roads are blocked, fallen trees, broken down cars. Water supply and electricity supply has stopped. Luckily workers are working on them. I have electricity to post this thread but no water for cooking and cleaning.

Just passing by here to check if you are ok. I'm glad you are. Stay safe!
And your english is pretty good, tho.

Streets were taken by trash and fallen trees, that's scary. I've never experienced a natural disaster before, but I guess I would have stroke just thinking about how many animals and people were harmed on it.
May your city rebuild and recovery from this tragedy as soon as possible. :/

Just googled about your city, and noticed that there are two official languages: chinese and portuguese. PORTUGUESE?? xD

Well, thanks to that second image, I've now got this stuck in my head. :P
Google isn't helping me figure out what that sign is supposed to indicate, either.

Do u mean the blue circle with a red cross on 2nd picture?
It means no parking except listed condition below (white rectangular sign beneath it)

Similar enough to what I expected; I'm more familiar with the design meaning "No Stopping", the car being parked there was what made me curious if it had a different meaning. Google still isn't giving me any returns for Macau, though it does return the "No Parking" info if I check it against Chinese signs. The car being there is another element of the circumstances, I suppose.

It is the final and first station of a route. As the "no parking" sign with white rectangular sign written "except bus", meaning only buses can be parked there. Buses are supposed to be parked there. As the typhoon came, buses were driven back to bus depot. So the cars had been parked there when the typhoon came, I assume.

So much trash in that water and these guys walking around on Flip Flops :I

And there's grease everywhere (most likely near food stores). It's worse than peeled banana.

Meh, I take it as "post-story" because I didn't take those crazy pictures such as flooding, falling objects, strong winds, etc.
Comment has been collapsed.
Storefront caved in is quite common in previous floods, because of water pressure.

Whats up with all that money on the floor? Is it fake?

Ohhh!! I thought you were joking about it but now I see it is a tradition, a cultural thing. I learned something new then. I hope your country recovers from this, my country also gets hit by hurricanes constantly so I am familiar with that.

It's quite different between typhoon and hurricane. Typhoons always bring heavy rain but less strength than hurricane, and typhoons are formed on sea. But this is the first time in 20 years that typhoon brings down water and electricity.
Edit: power -> water

Another thing I learned now... I always thought typhoon and hurricane were synonyms.

Imo it will take more than a week. Some street lamps went down, some area has no electricity / water or both. Roads are blocked, limited communications (no TV signals, radio broadcasts stopped at the evening, no 3G data)

It's good to hear you and most people are OK there. Goods and objects can be replaced, people not. My prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones and I'm hoping that the casualty list stays as low as possible.
The forces of nature can be devastating and unpredictable. Did you get an advanced warning from your local and/or federal government?

There was, but it was late (in Macau). There is a system shared in HK and Macau. At 5:20am HKT, HK issued No.8, but Macau is still No.3. At 9 am HK issued No.10, at the same time Macau issued No.8. The typhoon was closer to Macau than to HK. graph People in Macau were deciding whether going to work before 7am because under No.3 people needs to go to work. At the same time HK people have already prepared for the typhoon.

It looks complicated to me but then again living in Belgium we mostly have only very local weather anomalies like whirlwinds and heavy storms. And those are rare. I do hope that the warning system that's in place saves many life's there.

It's safe now but there are too many obstacles in some streets which caused traffic jam.

I saw here at the new that was the biggest storm in the last 18 years.
Glad to see that at least everything is fine with you.
btw, i saw a lot of Portuguese references at your pictures, do you guys still learn Portugues at school ?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes in secondary school, just basic things. Most of us forgot Portuguese after graduating from secondary school :/

I'm glad you are OK. Your English is not terrible. Why is there money everywhere? Hope you get clean water soon.

Those are hell money from Chinese incense stores. They are all soaked. Hell money can still be burnt but incense arent.

Natural disaster is really scary... I've experience several flood before, lasting about 2-3 days, it was ok because I live in 2 story house. Stay safe and be careful of electricity if there's a water remain...
Comment has been collapsed.
Power units went down, they have some kind of special mechanism to prevent electricity going into the water, but it isn't guaranteed.
Comment has been collapsed.
They are typical in previous floods. Flood water pressure did the job.

Bump. I hope the rebuilding process goes quickly and smoothly.
I live in Galveston, Texas and my sister and I are headed inland, to try to avoid the worst of the flooding from Harvey (which is either a hurricane or tropical storm, depending on who you ask).

8/22, Typhoon Hato struck SE China. I live in Macau where lies right on its path. Hurricane Signal No.10 was issued and it came with high tide period which caused heavy rains and serious flood. Here are some photos I have taken after the strike and the flood.
