PSA: Holiday Auction Gifts from certain regions are Region-Locked

Hi guys, just a quick PSA for those who may not have realized. If you had bidded with gems in the Holiday Auction and you are from a country that was region-locked, even though the bidded games won do not have any warning labels on them, they are not redeemable if sent as a gift to any other region. Learnt that the hard way today :/

EDIT: Have submitted a ticket, will update again when Steam gives a response.

Yeah, I'm really kicking myself real hard because my inventory of Christmas gifts for (overseas) friends is worth nothing now :/ and i'm scrambling to find replacements.

I'm not sure entirely, but for proof you can see gift4u's screenshot below, the game description states that it was won in Auction and it does not have any region lock warning... yet redemption was unsuccessful :/

Honestly I would really have expected them to have tagged a warning label or y'know, told us beforehand when we were rushing into auctions. I'm trying to read the Auction rules now and they don't seem to say anything about Auction winnings being region locked.

I'd suggest contacting support about this. The more people complain about this issue, the higher is the chance that they might do something about it.

Judging by what Valve has done lately, I would be more shocked if it isn't region locked to be honest.

Doesn't really matter, will just redeem the game anyway.

At least they gave ROW-versions, so there's no runtime locks, which is much worse if you happen to move :)

Well, if a game is not available in your region then obviously you can't also "buy it" on auction. That's understandable.

You should add "some" to the title of the thread. The way it is now is misleading. I thought every gift is restricted but apparently it's not the case. From what I understand EU are not region-locked (or at least most of them anyway, depends on a country).
