Is it that time of the month yet?

I'm diving straight into purchasing this bundle. H1Z1 is too tempting for me.
Subbed as always.
I've been thinking of cancelling my subscription for quite some time now. This is the month when I'll finally push the button! Bye, IGN!
The Halloween Sale left my wallet dry, I'm skipping this one.
I'll decide later... hopefully before the cut off date :D

After their november stunt, I don't care if you can get $8 back, especially not for h1z1. Did the usual promotional sales guy take a vacation already? I guess it's probably a new guy cus of the change of boss who had to change up things to assert his power and "improve" things. Admittedly one could probably sell the bundle for cheap and still break even in humble credits anyways.

I liked it better when they weren't employing tricks to get me to buy the monthlies, even if I didn't like any of the unlocks I was fine with it.

Agreed, I'm pretty unhappy with the new tactics. First offer 10$ wallet for a "very special, two days only" offer if you go yearly before November's early unlock (that was just before the IGN announcement too); then offer 20$ the next month. Then the 2$ wallet for T3 which seems to be a thing now.

I did let them know that it didn't exactly leave me feeling happy being locked in for a year with all those tactics and changes, and then the not-that-interesting (for me at least) multiplayer-only early unlock again. Not that it helped anything, but the support person did read and reply to it already and apologised and explained about them trying new things and promised to forward my feedback up the line, so there's that.

Yeah, after sleeping on it, I'm still unhappy though. Here's hoping there will be some knock-it-out-of-the-park bundles in that year.

(I do know I can pause a month if I don't like the early unlock, but a) I just know the reveals will have a bunch of wishlisted stuff if I do, and b) for every month I pause, I'm stuck with the yearly for a month longer ...)

I signed up for a year a month ago, so I cannot screenshot the current offer for you, hopefully somebody else can.

Here it is in Humble's own words from the reply to my support ticket:

"We are currently running a limited time promotion for the Annual subscription, which is valid from Nov. 3 10 am - Nov. 12 5pm Pacific. $20 USD wallet credit is granted automatically for upgrades. Wallet credit only available to customers who purchase an annual subscription between the promotion time frame."

Edit: When I upgraded mine to annual last month, it mentioned the (then 10$) bonus on that page where you see all the different subscription lengths (with the nice boxes with piggy banks, IIRC). Check there?

I can't believe people are still disappointed in the monthly bundle I mean what did you expect?A site that has been doing bundles for a while now and lot's of them and only so many games will be bundled you have to consider that most likely most of the monthly will be hit or miss.

Wake up people IGN/Humble is not to blame, sometimes we'are our own worse enemy. We have devalued the PC market so much due to huge sales and cheap keys and bundles sites that most people have a tizzy over paying full price for a game. Now, do you not only expect regular big sales of 75% off or more you expect bundles to do even better than that?

All well keep traveling down this path and keep enjoying microtransactions stuffed in every corner to make up for the devalued pc gaming market due to big sales, cheap keys and bundle sites.I suppose though it's always easier to blame the Publisher for greed than to admit ourselves we're greedy also.

How would you guys survived as gamers when the only time we use to get any decent discount was when a game bombed or when the holiday season rolled around.I remember paying 69.99 for N64 games when it first rolled out now people barely balk at 59.99

Completely agree.

Plus many people on this site and humble buyers are major bundle buyers, increasing odds of repeats wich makes for lower perceived worth... not to mention too many games changes one's bar, make us increasingly nit picky

And finally lots of critics are in for 'bigger deals'/chance of bigger deals- while monthly is for people with a varied taste who wants to discover games they might not have otherwise. Well, at least thats how i always perceived it, and what make me stick with it. Most monthlys(if not all) had a very curated tone for me and im glad... i increasingly activated more and more monthlies and regret not doing so with some past monthlies

Well, it's not just pc gaming with this syndrome it's like the plague.I am all for deals but there has to be a limit of how low you get such a deal otherwise you just get less and less for the price to make up for the cost of selling it so cheap.I get it some bundles are bad fair enough though I don't expect everyone to be great or cheap.

I have seen people on slickdeals complain in the same manner about how it's not cheaper than the lowest deal or so on.I admit though some do take it even further than that and go as far as returning an item bought like a week ago because this week it was 2 dollars cheaper. The irony of it all this is how so many blame Publishers and Corporations for being greedy as all hell all the while being greedy cheap bastards themselves.iI'm sure that comment alone will get me an uptick in blacklist but I don't really give a crap.

On the other hand bundles have saved many devs.
The harsh truth is the market is bloated and there isn't as many gamers/playtime as the offer; Not trully, considering how many games the majority buy and the huge differences of time distributed amongst then. Seasoned steam users with big to huge libraries are a minority all numbers considered; I have friends that have 1-2 paid games outside f2p famous titles, even a few that only play f2p.

In the end theres too many titles, not even talking trash but deserving games, with too small buyer base, not to mention the lack of marketing and competition. This very sale i left many titles outside simply because i had to choose; A number of those will eventually recourse to bundling for income.
Here and there there has been devs saying bundling was needed to stay afloat.

Whats sad is how that came along with lowering the price bar too much; But i wouldn't put that blame too much on bundles as in AAA publishers going for steep sales for older titles. That changed the perceived value way more then bundling and bundles wouldn't start including higher profile titles if said sales haven't done the damage before. I recall chossing between a cheap Dishonored that i didn't played and a indie- and dishonored was cheaper on sale. That is the main issue.

It's not all on bundles it started mostly with Steam sales but Bundles have done it no favors. As you can see the number of people who complain each month about how bad the bundles are even know for 12 bucks yo get over 100 dollars of games. They may not all be good or ones you like but that does not mean they are worthless and a bad deal overall.

They still don't deserve a trash rating because either the price is more than you're willing to pay for games you don't like.Plenty of games I don't like but I still respect that they are good games and worth the money just not my money. When I first joined steam I was shocked by the Summer sale and how cheap the games were. shortly after that, I realized why they are so cheap because consumers as an average are cheap ass bastard and Blackfriday proves it even more as each year they want it cheaper then the previous even if the product cost more to make.

Cuphead deserves a 29.99 price I doubt it would have sold as well as I see plenty complain about no sale on it during BF and freaking 20 dollar game and one that seems to be pretty damn good.I mean seriously if you don't like spending 20 on a good game or can't afford it get a new hobby.

That being said I understand worth is subjective but it's kind of silly at the same time to see so many want there cake and eat it also. The average person seems to want every sale and game to be at least 75% off and every bundle to be great but then complain about microtransactions and bad ports.I mean they have to cut corners someplace knowing that most on the PC won't pay full price for a game.

Thats the damage i was talking about. People talk about 'steam sales' being the damage but amazon and other outlets do similar heavy sales; The real damage came from big publishers with older high profile games coupled with the quick devaluation of retail sales on physical stores.
Once a title stops being bought at normal price they start shifting gears. Their numbers show that too long until heavy sales means lower returns as a game becomes less relevant over time- so sooner then later heavy 60/higher AAA blockbusters of previous years appear on 75% off. There they hurt the market and smaller publishers.

Im not that heavy invested in marketing but i swallowed what i could when i was studying design since i found much of the psychological tricks and studies geared to marketing to have some use in development, understanding how peoples mind work and theres this funny thing about pricing- its entirely relative and completely abstract. It has always been but since production shifted from manufactury to todays factories and retail it went extreme. No one have any real concept of value, the real worth in $$$ of anything. How much a shirt should cost? No wonder people haven't a clue about slave workforce in far countries we only know what we see- our entire concept of worth is based on perception, the price of whats next to it.

Steam just provides the means- the publishers went full on with 75%-90% off. That happened way more years ago since digital was still growing- now that digital sales brings more steady returns and ever growing they don't need to dip as far as 90% on most cases thats why steam sales 'got worse'. Steam doesn't define prices- it just created the enviroment for high agressive price competition.

Bundles are just a reaction to that...

.......now going back to monthly: Having a varied taste i can say monthlies rarely bring bad titles. Full stop.
H1z1 is one of the few untasteful choices ive seen humble make. Passpourt on december is one of those indies that couldn't measure on longevity and playtime, a problem ever more common, that id put alongside other similars like scanner sombre- however even when humble picks one of those for montlhy they're on the high inovation side of praise. Both scanner sombre and passpourt are unlike anything else out there- if that ain't curation i don't know how to call it.

I expected by now people would get the point of monthly, wich is the same of the core of humbles bundles until they started doing themed bundles; Its a tour on gaming, on its many genres. Someone who are into a couple of genres but rarely look at a bunch of others will always feel burned on some level. I love some popular genres like rpgs and action adventure but i don't expect those to be the bulk of bundles but i love good games of every kind so im actually impressed with most monthlies if not all of then.

i found a good explanation about names/titles from the begining until now:
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198050123056/recommended/295110/

it tell the whole story about the the original game.
To make it quick: H1Z1(20$) > H1Z1: KotK(20$) + H1Z1: JS (20$) > H1Z1 (20$) + Just Survive (20$)
So this H1Z1 is a downgrad version of the original game but with the same title.. a way to attract more people to their dying game destroyed by PUBG!

Have a hunch (and a wish) that Tyranny might be part of this bundle - well-reviewed game that has somewhat struggled with sales (260k sold so far compared to 1.1 million for Pillars of Eternity on Steam), just had its 1st anniversary and 60% off on Steam right now. It is also worth more in $ value, given that H1Z1 is the early unlock I expect at least one of the other games will be of significantly higher value.

Yes, wishful thinking, but it is a distinct possibility I feel.

Shadow Tactics seems very similar - around 180-190k sold before the last monthly, about a year in release, even higher review scores, was not the early unlock, ended up being the most valuable part of the monthly.

That, or the next early unlock (is it big enough for that?).

It's definitely big enough to be an early unlock by itself, I think better than November or December to be honest. But since Paradox are the publishers, not sure how open they are to being featured in monthlies as a general rule, it took Pillars quite a while to get there.

Tyranny has been offered with a discount at least 2-3 times in last month, so, it's not a wishful thinking - it's highly likely will happen in December or January

I had fun last month with the Elder Scrolls / November Bundle.

The money for the bundle was taken out of my account becasue I forgot to pause the week before end of month (Forgetting when its taken out)
When I saw this (a bit late i admit) I emailed saying that I wasn't 100% decided, but I was asking if it was possible to get a refund if I requested one. But at this stage was just asking so I could make a decision.
Decided overnight that I will keep the bundle because my dad may have interest in Elder Scrolls Online or maybe id evnetually get to it, but woke up to see they hadn't read my email correctly and had refunded me.
I requested for the refund to be cancelled or if I could resend the money for the bundle.
Then I see how good some of the unlocks were (Shadow Tactics looks amazing!).,
Then I received this:

Patrick (Customer Service)

Nov 7, 11:43 AM PST

Hello there,

Thank you for the update.

Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse a refund after it has been completed, and the November 2017 Monthly Bundle is no longer available for purchase. I apologize if this creates any disappointment, or otherwise inconveniences you.

I do hope we can make up to you with future Monthly Bundles! Please feel free to resubscribe when its next convenient for you.

Best wishes,

-Patrick

Jeez, that sucks. It would have been nice if Patrick could have been a bit more genuine in his sympathy for you... rather than not being so at all, really. I've had similar responses from customer service, either Humble Bundle's or someone else's, and you can sure feel that they don't really care. At least, that's the way the wording of that response makes me feel. Anyway, it's best not to make things more complicated for people in customer service than it needs to be, otherwise you can bet they might mess something up, like this. My advice is to err on the side of explicit statements and make it as simple as possible for them. Sorry for your experience.
