I have been extremely lucky in the last few days as I have won 5 giveaway YAY.
However one of them that ended 2 days ago has a duplicated key. I marked it as received because I did receive the key but it is not working. What should I do? I cannot write to the creator in his comment section on the profile so I was thinking of writing directly on the giveaway thread, would that be appropriate? Or should I submit a ticket to steamgift?

Thank you :)

  • Don't mark it as received until you get a working key and activate it. (You could end up with an unactivated win if the key doesn't get replaced).

  • Like you mentioned, try to contact the GA creator, either by leaving a comment on the GA or adding them on Steam to give them a chance to make things right.

Do NOT mark it as received if the key isn't working, it will get you into trouble for not having the game activated on your account. ONLY mark as received AFTER it has been activated. If the key is wrong, comment in the giveaway or contact the creator on steam.

(You can in fact unmark the giveaway, and you should do so.)

If you and the giveaway creator can solve the issue yourself, do it. Consider that support has a LOT of tickets to work through, don't submit tickets unless there's an issue you cannot fix without them.

Had the same problem a couple weeks ago. Added creator on steam and explained the situation. He gave me a new key which works and thats all. If you can, remove the recieved mark so he can understand something is wrong.

Here, have a key :

Maybe they really should change it to activated instead of received.

Tried to ninja it but it's invalid. :P

And yes, they really should, since that's the most indicative word, and would also stress the fact that you are obliged to activate it (which is a common pitfall for people that haven't read the rules properly such as myself).

As someone suggested in another thread, the "received" button should be replaced by "activated". It is a clearer diciture and maybe prevents new users regifting games because they see the "activated" thing.

As Danielsg mentioned, you must unmark the giveaway as soon as possible (by clicking the button again) so you won't get in trouble for a supposed rule violation. You then try to establish contact to the giveaway creator, and if he is unable to/refuses to cooperate you'll mark it as Not Received at the end of the 7 day deadline.

Thank you guys! Okay I unmarked the received button and I agree that it should be changed with "activate" instead. I'll try to write to the creator on the giveaway's thread and see how it goes. I wish there was a way to actually check keys before sending them though :(
