Is there any point in crafting badges? Or is it better to sell cards on the market?

Well, if you are a trader, then yes, you need to have a high level on steam.

Why?

Because people don't trust easily a trader with a low level account. If you have high level, they know that you won't try to scam them, because it would be stupid to risk a high level account. :P

In that case I guess I'll lvl up to 20 and then stop making badges.

Same for me.

Well I'd recommend to level up to 50 at least to get the higher drop chance for boosters. From there, you pretty much don't have to worry about it anymore (but I personally love to have the ability to add more showcases to my Steam profile, so each 10 levels you raise you can add another one)

You level up and the higher your level is, the more likely booster packs are to drop. It's not really worth the money you spend on completing badges though imo, so I usually just sell all my cards.

I guess. What I've been doing so far is selling half my cards and using the money to make badges.

Yeah, I've been doing that as well though I kinda just recently realised that I could also be spending that money on games, so yeah..

Thats about what Im planning to do with mine too. Make badges for the games I really like, sell off the rest.

Where does it say level increases the odds of booster pack drops? I don't remember reading that in the FAQ.

Here

"How can I get a booster pack?"

Once eligible, your Steam Level increases your rate of receiving a booster pack drop:
Level 10: +20% increase in your drop rate
Level 20: +40% increase in your drop rate
Level 30: +60% increase in your drop rate
Level 40: +80% increase in your drop rate
Level 50: +100% increase in your drop rate (i.e. the rate has doubled)
Etc.

For economical purpose, sell them all to market.
For pleasure like me, I'll do as same as a collector with badges and backgrounds and emoticons :"3

Isn't it cheaper to just sell the cards and buy the emoticons/backgrounds?

Some emoticons are expensive, so crafting is cheaper than buying them, of you're lucky.
But generally you're right.

As I said, for pleasure, it's not for economy. Just say like this, it's like noble gamble, the feeling is in the process, the result is just minority :"3

My 2 cents:

First of all say hello to your new best friend: http://steam.tools/itemvalue/

My opinion is sell everything that sells for above 0,15( or maybe 0,10) and use the rest to craft badges. There are a few trading groups on steam about fair card trading that will make trades 1:1 based either on set or value so you can complete your sets using other low value cards without those rdiiculous "trader fees". For same set trades you can always try http://www.steamtradematcher.com/ as well.
There's a minimum charge when you list something on the market so selling 0,04~0,07 cards brings back next to nothing.
When selling don't just look at the current price but take a moment to look at the Sale History of that item. Sometimes the current value doesn't reflect the actual price people go for or other times you can find cards of very unpopular sets that take weeks, or even months to sell.

There's always other alternatives too though. Like trading them for games directly, quite a few traders accept them as currency.

Also hold on to your cards from recently bundled games as they drop in price quite a bit for a short time but they go slightly up a month or two later

Thx that site is epic!

I don't have anything over 15 ;_; Time to enter more GAs for perv games ;P

I feel like that's the best plan.

Thank you for the information ;D

I crafted a few badges but now I just sell everything once in a while (twice so far, so more like once a year). If I want a new background I just buy it, I don't need super fancy ones so it's around 10 cents and that leaves me money to buy a few games during sales (I haven't finished spending last year's card money)

It was fun for a bit back in beta, but soon after I simply started selling everything. If I could do it again, I'd never have crafted at all. It's a fun meta-game for some, but isn't my personal taste.

Out of interest you know what the base friends amount is? The only reason I see is more friend slots.

Huh, I didn't even realize it affected your friend list slots.

250 at L0

Since your first game alone gives you a badge for L1, 255 is pretty much the starting minimum, as people who haven't spent money don't get community features like friends.

Actually, I think it's 150. 100 extra would come from linking facebook.

I'm going off an alt account. L10, 300 friends slots, no linked accounts.

From the FAQ

Why did you raise the limit of friends to 300 when I link my Facebook profile to my Steam profile?
Only a very small number of our customers are reaching the limit of 250 friends. We felt that they should have the opportunity to utilize the Facebook profile linking feature without having to remove some of their existing friends first.

So you get 50 extra after linking facebook that gets you to 300.
Which is also verified by my profile. At level 88 my max is 740(88x5=440. Add the 300 from default+facebook and it's the exact amount)

I dont see Any reason to craft to be fair .
Someone came up with argument that you need high level to seem more trustworthy , which is the most ridiculous thing ive seen in my life tbh .

Craft a badge if you like a game and want to get the profile background for it ( tho its cheaper to just buy it from market )
Or just craft it if u find a badge funny .... aside of that sell everything imo ...

Only reason I see is more friend slots, I'm going to need a lot on my bot before I push it.
Well, I wouldn't really trust a level 1 person... I know that's not really fair tho.

I really couldn't care less about profile backgrounds, steam is a place for me to buy games, nothing else.

I just read that and at first I thought it said Bagels or Market lol!!

What I do I just recently got into crafting/collecting badges though.. If a badge costs less than 0.06 cents I keep it for crafting. If a badge costs higher I sell and use the money for the cards I'm needing and also I buy cheap games with it.

Bagels? I want bagels!

How do you get badges for 6 cents? (I'm assuming you didn't mean six hundredths of a cent)

lol sorry I'm half asleep or something. I meant cards lmao. I wish you could buy badge!! I seriously have clue why I said badges!!!

I only sell expensive foils and duplicates (the ones left out after I finish their level-1 badges). For the rest, it's just a tedious job to sell them for like $0.04 each, so I'd rather craft badges and maybe get more booster packs, thus maybe more foils to sell.
