Who here exercises?
I broke some toes so it's been a bit challenging figuring out what I can do (mostly seated weight-training, my back day looks ridiculous with my legs stretched out in front of me and me hunched over them), but I lift for about an hour 4 days a week (3 on 2 off cycle). Before that I'd lift 3 days a week for about the same length, and play DDR on the days between for 2~ hours on a 5-day on cycle. Mobility warm ups before and some yoga and stretching after.
It's been a struggle to get back on a regular schedule since I was off my feet (well, foot) for close to 2 months, it's crazy how hard it is to establish good habits and how easy it can be to fall out of them.

Yeah, we can destroy habits in a flash that took months to build. At least it's foten easier to go back to after you've done it once but still sucks. Especially when it's something out of your hand like an injury. But it's good you adapted instead of fully stoping :)
Have a fast and good recovery!

Badminton is pretty popular here in Asia, good way to socialize imo.
I am planning to stop by my group this weekend for some very light games for myself, not crazy lunging or reaching yet for me but just to let the muscles get used to some movement again.
the last month I focused more of losing some weight after being mostly incapicitated due to the accident.:)
1 regular meal whatever I want and 2 big smoothies per day.
Lost 3 kg so far.
But the question is now. Do you exercise?
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't doubt it's nice to socialize and great how chill it can be if not playing too seriously.
Good luck getting back at it :)
Yeah, I do mainly calesthenics, but like to do a variety of exercises not only to balance but to not get bored/lose fun in doing it, from lifting for strength, to some yoga for flexibility and swimming to improve my breathing although I haven't swim too often lately.

There should be an option that merges both "No, I highly dislike it" and "No, although I know I should" since they're not mutually exclusive :)
I don't dislike playing sport games (in fact I'm a rather good sportsperson throughout my school days), but I just dislike doing deliberate exercise in general. I put it down to genuine laziness.
Sometime back, I managed a certain consistency with Just Dance Now (the free version so you can only dance 1 or 2 songs every day), until my phone went out of space and it couldn't operate further without updates and I went back to being lazy again.
Other than JustDanceNow, I also installed things like Starri and Tuby (wow I only just notice they changed the app name... was called Plaice? previously) but haven't touched them for a long time. Is it because these software being free doesn't get me invested? No no, I got this nifty thing called Quell, and although I've never regretted buying it, I can count the times I played on it so far on one hand.
This lack of motivation pretty much plagues me in other areas too, so it's not just exercise really :)
Comment has been collapsed.
That's true, I jonly left those options to select what I thought would be primary because technically there could be plenty more, even people who workout a lot but really dislike it too.
This is just my opinion, but waiting for motivation doesn't work because motivation is always temporary and the motivation often comes from taking action, not the other way around. I don't want to sound "lecturing" it's just how I see things and don't get me wrong, i fully get what you mean, it really takes a lot of effort to go against it and I still fail many times to counter it but have accepted that sometimes I'll simply fail and move on from it.
But hope you find something that might makeit easier for you to do so :)

Naw, that's not lecturing; that's just stating the fact :D
I'm a highly optimistic person and maybe that's my downfall because anything I fail at, I just brush it off and continue to live life, which itself is the most wonderful gift of all in the grand scheme of things. Thanks for your wishes! I hope to find something eventually too.

I've started going to boxing once a week. I've been trying to find exercise I enjoy for the past... twenty-five years, and this might be the one. After a month or two I might start going more regularly but I've got a lot on right now.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah i do strenght training almost everyday, cardio some days and some hiking on weekends.
The first months are hardest but after that i would be depressed if i didn't work out. It honestly just feels super good,
Better than any game to be honest.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't pratice as often but feel the exact same. If I don't exercise for a while I'm more "anxious", not as great mood. I wouldn't necessarily say depressed but definitely not as well.
I wouldn't say better than any game as I do enjoy playing games a lot more than exercising but certainly more beneficial^^

I spend about two hours each day hiking through nearby forests with my wolf hybrid.
I max out pushups every hour for five hours each day with two days off each week.
I'll be expanding that to other calisthenics in two weeks.
Comment has been collapsed.
That sounds really good:)
I never tried doing something like maxing pushups for multiple hours but could be a fun challenge to try for a while to see how it feels like^^
More importantly,after hearing wolf hybrid, it's hard not to ask for a picture^^

I have a surprisingly active job (you would not think that lab work would be, but I usually take around 10-12k steps/day on a day where I just go to work and then head back home, and there's some heavy lifting involved as well), so I do get a fare bit of exercise just from that, and I chose not to take the elevator to force myself to move a bit more.
My job also gives everyone working there 300€/year to spend on something health related, and so I recently got a gym card with that money and I try to go there 2-3 times/week.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're right, although I would guess you would move in a lab, I wouldn't think it would be that much.
That's good, I sit most of my day and have thought many times to change jobs simply due to that. It's not that I don't like my job, but definitely would like to move more as I have in past jobs.
That's a nice job bonus .:)

I work as a trainer in the gym so....yeah... Physical activity is very important for our body and mind and people would be surprised if they knew what our bodies can do and how better our lives could be. Anything that involves activity is good for our body and mind!
Stay strong ^^,

During COVID-19 I stayed home only eating and working. No more than 1000 steps a day, for sure. Got into "Obesity 2"... and it took a lot of effort since January/23 to loose 35kg and get back into overweight (and over average muscles, I must say)... still on the way of loosing weight, but it's way harder day after day. Still need to loose about 10kg of body fat... probably will reach it in 2025 if I can keep going :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! Let's not let the "forced day off" unable our next days!
These last 10kg seems harder than the first 35kg... I don't understand why, but it's like you said, we just have to keep doing the way we can, forcing the habit, and someday we'll achieve our goals! :)
Wish you good luck with your workouts, too! :)

I do the same, not to everything but even when I go to other towns, I like to park a bit further which is a lot faster to find and less traffic and just walk my way to things, if it isn't insanely far and have time ofc. That and not using elevators most of the times :)

Missing the potato answer O.O
I have a cat. I need to pick him up occasionally.... Does that count?
No honestly, I know I should do more. But I'm riding the bike a couple of times in a week... and I absolutely hate the stairs to my building So I try to avoid them, guilty as charged
And sometimes... I get in a Yoga mood and do Yoga. Like once a week. I really would like to do that daily. But ugh.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're absolutely right, I forgot i t but it might have been for the best or it would all be potato xD
If you ride the bike a couple times a week and do yoga once a week it's already not bad.
May not be the best, but any movement added counts :)

Me, i was a bit fat when i was 20 years so .... i usually played videogames everyday and stay at home most of the time...i was unable to walk more than 20 min without being exausted haha
Now i usually run 10km and going 3-4times to gim per week and i feel 20 times better than before...
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't doubt that^^
Anyone who has been like that and made a change into being more active definitely knows how much this is true.
As much as I like to play videogames a lot and chill at home, I also like to be active and do multiple stuff so life doesn't get stale and don't lose quality of life:)

YEAH BUDDY
Used to be alot more of a gymrat but recently started getting busy and taking little breaks, need to get back into it full time!
For the most part though I try to eat as much protein as I can, substitute less healthy things for better alternatives and do a fair amount of walking as I spend most of my freetime usually just using the PC :p
Comment has been collapsed.
That's pretty understandable, as we get busy something has to give, but as long as it's just ups and down and not fully downs, we just keep going^^
Yeah, I try to do the same thing about the diet too, I still eat a lot but those substitutions make all the difference:) Although I've been failing a little lately, xD Girlfriends can make it really hard to eat healthy all the time^^ At least that's always been my case, but still try to balance my best^^

Exercise, huh?
Before the snow, I used to roam around the riverbed twice a week, about 10 km round trip on a heavy bicycle, looking for bad human beings who pollute the river.🙂🚲🌉
Now I'm in my room because the bears showed up at the end of fall and it's getting cold. My workouts are scant compared to a week ago.😂<Huh? Almost zero? Wait ... Humans and snow removal await.... ...⛄
But, well, I always do light stretching slowly in the going to bed and sometimes before morning to prevent my back pain from the car accident from returning due to the cold...........................
Oh, the more talk about this, the more evil the human race on the *rius rocket... rocket man 🔫😊Zap ok?
Well, it was just time to increase my physical activity, so I had more time to get in touch with nature, and recently I have been spending more time observing squirrels in the wild...
I'll keep blind faith in that. For the sake of the cute little squirrels.🙄🐿🤗
Comment has been collapsed.
That's already a good thing. Streetching after waking up is so good for us but most people don't do it at all.
Utilizing squirrels make any argument against it impossibe, jk^^
The cold definitely doesn't help and I'm in a moderate weather country so can't really speak for people in colder countries as I believe I would have a harder time too

oh yeah. 30-40 mins a day otherwise my back would kill me. Just home fitness with some weights, resistance bands, etc. Or pilates. Also, outdoor biking (~30 miles) once a week.
My best decision last year was to buy a walking treadmill under my desk — now I walk 15k steps a day without going outside, lol. I would prefer actually going outside tho, but it is what it is. Better like this than sitting the whole day

After far too many years of not looking after myself, I am finally trying.
I try to do something every day, and am trying to build it all in to my daily routine. Some days I do more, some days I do less, some days (that grow rarer and rarer) I don't do anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's good :)
The way I personally see it, doing anything be it more or less is already a win, sure some days we don't do much, but even if it's just a little, it's the overall consistency of keep going that makes the difference on the long run not the "peak" days :)
Keep going!^^

I have picked up riding 3 years ago. Horses are great, I don't need a therapist anymore. ^^

I was a lazy overweight person back in 2015. At the end of 2015 started cardio and weight lifting at the gym, now i am a totally different person. Lost 16kg fat, my reflexes improved, mentally feeling better and energetic. In my experience everyone should exercise atleast 3 days a week for 30mins daily, There's lots of benefits.

My current accommodation will apparently/allegedly(?) have a resident-exclusive gym once construction is done. I am determined that since I am paying for it, I am gonna use it once it's ready. But I have no exercise knowledge and have been letting my metabolism carry me all my life. So if anyone can point me to some kind of beginner regimen, much appreciated.
Comment has been collapsed.
If your gym contains treadmill. Start with 5mins medium pace running. After running schedule your workout like:
Monday---> shoulders
Tuesday--> Chest
Wednesday---> Wings
Thursday--->Biceps
Friday--->Triceps
Saturday--->Legs
Sunday--->Break
Then repeat.
Diet and sleep plays a important role. Avoid oily and sweet things. I eat grilled food mostly.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, thank you. Will need to research what exercises train each part and how long and heavy I should go but believe I can handle that. But this will going to be harder than I thought. My sweet tooth is insatiable and my mental health issues make sleep a challenge but I will deffo give it a shot. In fact, improving my mental health is why I want to do it in the first place.

At the start weight matters very little, its the angle that matters the most. Start with light weight, all you need is 30mins daily only(4-5 different exercises for each muscle). 3 sets each exercise, each set with 8-12 reps.
Good luck buddy.

This is actually very helpful, many thanks for your advice!
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah as Crazy463708 said, focus more on form and getting used to it/muscle memory rather than heavy weights. Only then start to slowly increase.
Don't let such issues stop you, I'm someone who sleeps very little in comparison to most people (past week slept 3/4hours daily) and I still feel better than not working out. With this, I'm not saying to not make effort to sleep as I should do more myself, but rather that it shouldn't be a reason to stop, but it definitely makes your gains slower and harder time to recover sometimes.
On the food improve it slowly with substitutions or things that fill you if you like, like "tea", watery fruits with low sugar and such. It becomes easier slowly.
The only thing I would change from what Crazy463708 said is to test how many days/time you are willing to go to the gym/workout. Don't try to do a lot and then give up as it happens with a lot of people. Test it out and if you feel 3 days is enough for you, just make those 3 days count, no need to workout every day, unless you want really good gains. But try not to go lower than that.

Thank you for the encouragement and advice! It is good that taking things slower is an option. I will experiment to see what works in my circumstances but 3 days a week is an easy starting commitment - that's Fridays + weekends.

In countrary to crazy I would not suggest doing that kind of split. Best is to just google beginner workouts and go from there.
Especially if you are a beginner, you have to give muscles the time to rest and plan ahead on how you will work them. 6 day workouts even if split up is a strain on muscles. And takes up useless amounts of time if you dont go for serious gains.
Most basic one you would be able to find would be doing Back & Biceps, Chest & Triceps, Shoulders & Legs. This way when you do Chest you already have triceps warmed up, but considering that you need to work triceps when doing chest, you are limiting the perfromance of muscles.
My favorite split is Chest&back, arms (tricep, bicep, forearms), legs&shoulders. In this approach you do "Push and Pull" in the same workout. You do an excercise for Chest, then do one for back so chest can rest. Same for arms - do excercise for bicep, then do it for tricep and repeat. Each and other muscle gets to rest while you are training the other one. Legs and shoulders are both pushing group, but since they are on opposite ends of your body, they have chance to rest again.
And take care that muscles need 24-48 hours of rest between workouts before you go at them again.
Honestly I would suggest subscribing to bodybuilding.com - they have very good trainer videos and workouts that you can do. When I started working out some 10 years ago it was still free and I really made a difference after I went through a 3 month workout program. It started off very basic and slowly developed into more difficult concepts.
For example the type of workout crazy suggested - I did one of these which was aimed at huge gains. And even then it was seperated into Chest , Back, Arms, Legs and Shoulders. And two days active rest (running, biking). Six days is overkill. You really do that only if you NEED to give 100% for your triceps without wasting energy on chest. But that has to be calculated.
But of course as others said - concentrate on form first, on weight second. I see again and again ego lifters, who cant even do half a rep but take enourmous weights. No gain from that, only risk for getting hurt. I overestimated my strength in my last workout and actually strained my shoulder after I took a bit too heavy dumbbell. And that is with years of experience and training with an actual trainer. Shit happens, but if you lift with your head, you will be fine. Be careful of asking for hints in gym though. While everyone in gym will most likely be very happy to help out, sometimes wishing well can lead to not so well tips (like crazy.. no doubt he meant well, but I disagree with that split for a beginner). Take my suggestions with grain of salt as well. I am not a professional trainer and I dont have professional education in the field. Read up on professionals and then you can critically evaluate if anything that helps me (or crazy) is also applicable to you.
Don't do one excercise with one weight. You need to load the muscle, so better to start lighter but use higher weight every set. And very importantly - stretch before and after.

Some new points to consider - thank you for the feedback. Not looking to become huge or shredded. Priority is to improve my mental health and secondary goal is to maintain a reasonable amount of leaness and definition as I get older (i.e. avoid looking like a slug). Getting bigger or really cut is higher than I am aiming for at the moment. I will focus on form then, check out bodybuilding.com and do some more research.

Hey, so I'm kinda curious as to whom or how many people here exercise?
I don't mean going to the gym, going for walks or any sort of sports but in general does some effort to stay fit/healthy?
I don't mean any sort of shaming with this, but mostly curious due to being a healthy habit.
