John Wick was enjoyable. Nothing special but not bad either.

enjoyable indeed, plot wise it's nothing special, but it has the best gunplay scenes i've ever seen
Its the Raid with guns

Ha I clicked on this thread just to post this movie as well.
Dont get out to theaters much with three kids so Im a bit behind on movies but this is the most recent netflix movie I watched and really enjoyed it as well. Literally wanted to jump through my TV and choke the life out of Theon Greyjoy multiple times during this movie.

Looks like you guys had the same idea as me XD. The Kingsmen is also a great film if you are looking to go to the theatres.

Not really "early" by any means. I think it was his fifth film. Let's see, in order:
Following
Memento
Insomnia
Batman Begins
Prestige
Dark Knight
I would say his early work would fall before Batman Begins. Those movies were pretty obscure to the masses as he and his brother were pretty unknown.

I felt it was different enough. Felt more like Das Boot than Saving Private Ryan.

I've watched it on the 2nd of March: Donnie Darko (2001)

This movie is... strange. I didn't like it in the beginning too. But the plot and the ending especially are great. Also pages from the book (The Philosophy of Time Travel) are cited only in director's version as I know, while it is very important for understanding. Plus I like everything time-travel related.

Well I'm sure some time travel fans will like it, but I found it confusing. It's one of those movies I had to search for 'explanation' afterwards. I'm a huge sci-fi fan, but time travel movies are somewhat strange (just like Predestination from 2014).

Don't ever watch Primer. Even the explanation doesn't make sense. Great film though.

"You should already know that."
P.S. But I don't like being neither Frank, nor any other character of this movie :)

I feel the exact same way about it. I think I'm okay with the third season because its going in a completely different direction from the first two.

"Her" but everything with Joaquin Phoenix is good (watch "Buffalo Soldiers" if you haven't - some think that "walk is better")
and i plan on watching Big hero - but that's already mentioned....

I want to watch Her about seven more times before I die. Great film.

I agree. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was really enjoyable.

I watched "A Streetcar Named Desire" on TCM channel on Tuesday, I think. I was floored by how talented Vivien Leigh was, as well as Marlon Brando (of course). It really cleared up any of the confusion I had with the original screenplay when I read it back in high school.

Still, and enjoyable movie with good casting and great directing.
And even though the plot had some holes, it definitely managed to captivate the spectator's attention and even to react emotionally.
Above average for sure.
Whiplash...much better.

David Fincher has always been great. Worst film he ever made was Alien 3 which really wasn't all that bad. I think Zodiac is my favorite film of his.

Tree of Life and Grand Budapest Hotel.
In terms of what I saw in theatres recently, only the Hobbit 3 and Imitation Game since the Interstellar release, so Imitation Game out of the two.

Both great movies. I loved the first thirty minutes of Tree of Life. Grand Budapest was probably my favorite film last year.

Smaug is my least favorite. Speaking objectively, it's really the best movie of the three I guess. But Unexpected felt sort of like the book, and Five Armies felt sort of like LOTR, whereas Desolation just didn't have any semblance of Tolkien at all to me.

Recently I enjoyed Birdman quite a lot.
If you want something older/less known, try Trollhunter or The General
Another all time favorite is: Black Cat, White Cat

I liked the camera methods used in Birdman. There were interesting moments too. Although I understood what is it about, most time of the movie it was for me something like WAT?! :)

+1. It gets criticized a lot for making history too black and white, but Braveheart and Gladiator really do the same. Historical aspects aside, I really enjoyed The Last Samurai. It has some beautiful scenes and some of Zimmer's most beautiful music to accompany it.
