The best thing about Shenmue when I got it at launch, was that it was revolutionary. Now, this kind of game is the norm, so /shrug.

Next game will probably have virtual reality in order to be revolutionary.

I wouldn't quite say it's the norm -- few games focus so heavily on day-to-day real-life simulation as Shenmue. And I can't think of another one that did so in the context of its wuxia genre, either; a Shenmue reboot or a game inspired by it would still feel very different from most of what we get today.

Unfortunately, the basic problem is that Shenmue cost an insane amount of money to produce even by AAA standards (and would probably be even more expensive today.) I don't think you're likely to see another game with that kind of budget unless it fits squarely into an established genre and has an established audience.

Yes. I think it also could also be even better, or far worse.

It'd be nice if they could release the 2nd game in the US for Dreamcast.
