I think he meant gleam.io, whosgamingnow and so on.

Yeah, but it belonged to the same category as SG, unlike gleam and the others.

There are 5498 open giveaways on sg right now (and there are currently no steam sales or recently released great bundles). I'd say it's not dying yet ^^

does that include private/group/whitelist ga's?
(just curious)

Devil's Advocate: how many of those are shovelware/abandonware? :P

Gameminer was lying to its own users, not even giving the winnings to the winners, and not even having support in the English language. Steamcompanion has a technical problem, nothing more. Which other big giveaway sites are around?
Comment has been collapsed.
I wasn't sure about its name, but yeah, you are right. Still, it was never really alive, in order to die. :P

The Indigala giveaways are SO rigged. Only the top 5 bots win there. I have never won one there in the months it started so I'm done with theirs. Plus they keys can not be guaranteed..
Comment has been collapsed.
I mean that it didn't. Me and other people were complaining that we didn't receive the items that we won from gameminer, but instead, gameminer kept them.

Valve blocked their bots like 1,5 - 2 years ago, saying that they were middlemen in trading gifts from cheaper regions to ROW (well when there weren't as much regional tradebans it was true). And they lots shitload of gifts, saying that it's not their fault and they won't give anything back. They changed system so that gifts weren't stored on their end, but taken from creator after winner was choosen to drop chance of valve getting hundreds of user gifts once again.
Then oil dropped from $100 to $50 per barrel, and russian currency dropped really hard as well. Which means that people who were buying gold in ROW countries were giving less money for GM creators to support site and "pay" to creators. At this point development of GM was halted, they didn't introduce single change they were talking about few months before (like better site layout).
And lastly they allowed region restrictred GAs on their end, which means that pretty much everything is RU-CIS only now. Even gold GAs, which makes buying gold for ROW people pointless, as they won;'t be able to activate their wins and trading with rescricted gifts is well.. not profitable.
From Quick history of GM fall by me.

Sadly, I'm talking about 2016 - maybe 2015 too. The site's own competitions were fake, delivering other gifts than promised. The items that people were winning, were never getting delivered. English support never existed! And so on!
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, but it's more or less all connected with this trade ban in 2014. Shrink of userbase (I bet that tons of users rage quitted after their gifts weren't delivered), losst income, bad economic situation in their country and so on.
Here support is user-based, but people are involved in the site. So they try their best.
On GM they had one active english mod, who sometimes had problems with writing normal, understandable sentence. So not realy helpful. They were focused on russian users, whole "international" side was addition that made money for them, but they never invested their time to give conditions for community to grow.

I never had any problems getting my winnings on gameminer i have gotten all games , cs items , tf2 items that i won from the site

It's based on my experience and other people's experience. English support is non-existent - that's also based on my experience and others people's experience.

Giveaways won: 73 (mostly free games I should not have entered)
Giveaways created: 150 (mostly bought bundle games)
I am telling that just to show I am not new to the site when mentioning my next point.
One time I did some giveaways on Gameminer and accidentally used a key that I had just activated myself, so I thought I would delete the giveaway no problem but noooooo turns out there is no way to delete my giveaway after launching it, also I could not view the key in my giveaway until after it had finished meaning I could not verify my mistake.
Then I contacted support (I heard bad things about English support) but this was a 7 day giveaway so I thought they could sort it out before then, but again nooooo they did nothing within the 7 days (or the 6 months since)....so then I thought I would write a warning message on my giveaway so the winner would know and I could send them a different key also the moment someone won the giveaway I even sent them a PM explaining the situation, and this winner did not read the giveaway message or my PM and marked the giveaway as false then insulted me.......end of story and my frustration was great.

I blame immigration. We should build a wall around SteamGifts and make Xbots pay for it! lol

Sites die because it's hard to attract users and even harder to monetise. Keeping your site at the top of SEO ranks is a lot of work and decent hosting costs money. If you're not able to cover costs it's better to just let it go.
As some earlier replies show, SG has plenty of giveaways and seems to have a good active userbase. The problem is probably just that they're not games you want right now :)

Steamgifts is probably the only gifting site still popular, alive & active.
Steamgifts probably works the best because easy to use, and quick. Other sites are sometimes a hassle to join giveaways or even talk on the forum.
Other stuff too but I tired and need sleep.

You keep not seeing the forest for the trees. The original poster is kinda right, you know. Only steamgifts has survived all this time.

Does that neglect the poor ratio? I don't even mind that as i said. People do what they do, there will be leechers, there will be gifters, and people in between. To me it does make his op and question dubious as to why he is making the thread and to what purpose.
I don't even know any other sites beside this and steamcompanion, yeah gameminer and such but those aren't even worth mentioning.

But still, let people post in peace. xD A friendly community could probably motivate people to make some more giveaways. Anyhoo, prove me right, my man! ;_;

SG has very alive and friendly community seriously, I can't see any drama here guys, sgtools and puzzles which often stops bots joining, fun events etc. I don't remember these being on other giveaway sites. That's why I think it might die last ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You hid it well ^^
So you fixed the main problem and Steamgifts will live forever

Burritos are dying!
15 years ago there were many burritos.
On a serious note - say no to Big Giveaway, and support small mom & pop giveaway sites.

Things always die eventually but right now SG seems fine other sites have been dropping off but meh.

SG is not dying. Other sites die from time to time and I'm glad they do! (evil laugh). To me, it's all about interface. SG has some great interface on it! And let's face it. You get 1 entry/GA that means that I have the same chances as other participants do. In other sites, you could use all your points in one GA for multi-entries. That sucked. Also, there were like Group GAs where they force you to join some Steam Groups which was irritating! (F@ck you steamcompanion! :P) Here, you can promote yourself but not force it to other users. which is nice. ^^

During peak time, about 1 year ago, there were about 5-10 Big giveaway sites and dozens of small ones, now the only site that managed to stay alive is Steamgifts, maybe 1 other. And even steamgifts feels like it's not what it was in the past. What happend? Why are giveaway sites dying ?
