Do you have a noise or sound that helps you fall asleep?
I always listen to a podcast or story to sleep so I can listen to that instead of my suicidal and other bad thoughts.

Same here for the same reason. I usually turn on the radio to BBC news, keeps me distracted until I fall asleep and they tend to repeat the same thing over and over every half hour so it's not too distracting. :)
When I'm trying to sleep in absolute silence my mind is racing with thoughts, my internal monologue revs me up, then I start checking the clock, "oh shit it's 5am and I'm still awake, I'm never going to be able to wake up in the morning, I better just try to stay awake..." and then I fall asleep. :P
I don't have a TV in my bedroom.

I used to fall asleep to the fan but this past summer I found that when I woke up in the morning I was plagued by a horrible cough. Not sure if it's psychosomatic or if maybe the fan was blowing dust particles into my lungs over night but now I can't use it as a means of lulling myself to sleep :(

This has just reminded me I should 've had mine an hour ago. You just saved me a sleepless night, Cheers. :D

I always have a fan running in the background, regardless of the season, it's not pointed at me - the constant noise soothes me.

A horror movie w/ a dark color scheme on mute or low volume

Alcohol but that only helps short term, i'd sleep with 2 sweaters and a t-shirt on and lately i'm trying 2 pair of socks when it get's cold (it was 5c lat week with little freezing in the night), it helps.
I can't stand any noise, it has to be completely silent.
There are rain sounds you can listen to or download, https://www.google.nl/?gws_rd=ssl#q=ambient+rain+holosync
The one from holosync even have some special binaural beats.

No lights, not even from the outside (window) , I suffer insomnia , so for me sometimes it's too hard to sleep,, I can't stand a light if I want to sleep, not even the air aconditioner numbers so I have to put something in front of it before sleeping, also sooth music, sadly not always work. The only thing that really calms me is the sound of the waves from the ocean, (i'm from Spain but not living there anymore) , my house there is near the beach so every night when everything is calmed I can hear perfectly the sound of the water, miss it so much (I tried to hear some recorded water waves sound but not the same , it doesnt work) ><

Absolute silence helps a lot in a general case. But if I'm tired enough, have something to lean my head on (so, not sitting straight on a seat or something) and, optionally, have a short fap I can probably fall asleep in the middle of a war zone during an earthquake. All those boring school days in 12-th grade and hours-long trips across the country for programming competitions have trained me well.

Some kind of low rumble or fan... dryer, vehicle engine...
Have you tried a noise machine? There are actually (at least) three kinds... white noise, pink noise and brown noise. If fans have been bugging you, try pink or brown. The free sound editor Audacity can generate a sample of all the types, if you want to make sure...
then again you could always find an old nature sounds CD of rain or something. :)

(open window) leave it open until the the room temperature drops to the point you'd
imagine to die without a blanket and still freeze with 1 ... get 2 blankets > best sleep

Right now it's November in northern Wisconsin aka Minnesota 2.0 aka Canada 0.5.
It's cold as hell and my toes are freezing even with socks on but the heater's on. I really like the heater because it's situated on my room's ceiling and when it kicks in it makes a gentle sound while it filters in the heat. Unfortunately, it doesn't do it forever since it decides "well, 65 degrees is warm enough! My work here is done." D:
Things like the TV prevent me from sleeping, but things like rain and the heater are like lullabies for me.
So I guess my little discussion here is exactly what's on the tin, metaphorically speaking.
