I purchased the steam key for Magicka: Collection at Green Man because it was on sale.
A little cheaper than it was on sale for in the Steam store a couple days earlier.

But when I got the email for Green Man I noticed it did not list all the DLCs. I checked the Green Man site and they say only 8 items included, not 22 items. So I immediately contacted Green Man and asked if I am missing something, that their site does not list all of what is suppose to be included in the "Collection". Jacob responded with, go buy the one from Steam. So I asked for a refund.
Got no response in 3 days so I created another ticket.

I explained that their Magicka: Collection is named the same as the official Magicka:Collection but does not include all the DLCs which is misleading and causes confusion . Since I already own Magicka and only want the DLCs and did not use the key, please refund me.

A response from Holly was "I am sorry to hear that you want a refund on this product but unfortunately I am unable to give you a refundโ€ฆ". Contacted a couple more times, but it's like talking to an automated phone service. Really bad service.

So I would not trust this company, you may not get what you want and they will not help you.

Funny thing, I have an unused Magicka DLC collection key from indiegala from the Magicka++ bundle (which is ironically where I finally obtained the updated King Arthur Collection).

If you could provide proof that you apologized to gmg and told them it was your fault and you were ignorant of the intricacies, I may give you said key...

and the conclusion is: do research and read everything before buying stuff. EVEN when you bought a lot from them. That's why i usually buy my games on steam.. its better for the environment and i read all, or most, of the info. but then read before you buy is a must, also in everyday life.example: when i was in a hurry, i bought some snacks but didn't look for the expiration date.. both were expired and when i got beck to the shop i bought it from they said: sorry but we do not refund you because blah blah blah" a lame excuse(got the bill and everything) so now i ALLWAYS check the expiration date :)

I'm surprised you didn't pursue that. That could get the store into serious trouble if they sell things past expiration.

depends on the wording, use by means its not likely safe to use after that date thats stuff like dairy which will be iffy quite soon after the use by date, wheras best before means if you eat it after then it wont taste as good but should be fine, as long as they say clearly its out of date they can sell it just fine

+1 - it's really awful service, like their company not from Europe or US, but from Africa or one of CIS countries. Don't want to buy anything after that cases with OP.
Magicka Collection: this term supposes that this will be not 10% or 70% of full Collection (same gift or key like in Steam store).

Yeah, I'm CIS citizen-racist, who doesn't like service in CIS countries (I recommend you to travel to Uzbekistan, for example, and verify it for yourself). It's like black guys can easily call other black guys with some non-tolerant black words, but white guys can't do so;)

And white guys can call white guys racial slurs (not that many spring to mind) and that wouldn't be racist. Protip: 'racist' refers to being derogatory about ANOTHER race.

As for the comment about CIS, sure, you can say what you want, having lived there. Don't, however, assume that everywhere else is like that.

I read the thread and found out that OP thinks GMG is conducting illegal stuff like false advertising and breaking 7 day refund policies.
If you're so sure, just go and sue them. If you win, make everybody here who opposed you apologize. (I will)
Or next time just bother to read at least half of what's written on store pages before you click, click and click.
This is really same with whining 'Oh I bought something and its not steam..I was fooled!'. Just read. Everything you should know is there for you to know.

Gamersgate has a "no questions" 15 days refund. And gmg should do the same. It's what happens on 99% of the stores on my country, at least in gmg credit. If they can't do that is a proof of bad customer management. (Although the description of the product is pretty clear)

For non-revealed keys. Also GMG has too, but autoreveals keys, so in practice it applies only to preorders.
Also this is required by law in EU. So thats why it's offered.

Of course it's required by law. Companies wouldn't do it voluntary. The solution is easy, not auto-reveal key. Not send it by email.

Agree with this. Sending via mail also creates the 'e-mail not coming problem' Happened a lot to me with other stores.

I see what you mean, however a collection does not necessarily imply all the DLCs. Of course, Paradox and Steam have updated their collections but GMG didn't sell you anything called "Complete Collection".

Solution? Sell it or gift it. Wait for a sale which is soon and buy the missing DLCs.

Personally, I like GMG for their awesome ideas concerning credits and stuff. Still, they should care more for their customers.

It's perfectly logic that if you see a brand new listing for a game that says COLLECTION you'd expect to have the real collection but no.. this is not how it's working in this day and age. Never trust the label, read the small characters. And don't come here complaining either, sheep will laugh at you to heal their self esteem.

What are you even talking about? it is a collection. By your crazed logic, because I don't have every rare coin in existence, I do not have a collection of rare coins. If it said COMPLETE collection, or ultimate or whatever, that'd be different. It does not.

Comment has been collapsed.

Except that when a game is released as a 'collection' it typically indicates a complete set of DLC or additional extras. The word 'collection', while by definition does not indicate a complete set, has actually been used that way in games sales for a long time. It's pretty misleading.

If you sell a 'collection' version of a game, with an incomplete set of extras, then ideally you need to bring attention to what items are in the incomplete set, otherwise there would be no way to differentiate between two different 'collections', even if they had completely different extras. This is why when buying promotional launch packages, they are named differently like "digital collector edition", "premium collection", "season pass collection", "alternate skin pack 2" and so on. It would be a bit silly if you opened a game in steam and saw five different packages, each with the same name and price, but each with different content.

Sure, it always pays to read the fine-print and double check the contents of a package you're about to purchase, but it's also an understandable mistake when a company uses established lingo yet forgets to keep the content matching it's assumed meaning. "DLC Collection 1/2/3" would give customers more pause to check the contents, for instance. Though, by the same token, just as OP forgot to check the contents, I'm sure the hosting company forgot to put in the paperwork for a name tweak. Shit happens, really.

1st A "Collection" does not need to be "Complete", nor is an indication of completeness. It is merely an indication of it being a collection of games and or DLC.
2nd When the "Magicka Collection" was originally packaged for retail by Paradox, 8 DLCs were all that there were.
3rd "Collectors Edition", "Digital Deluxe Edition", "Deluxe Edition" & "Premium" editions do not imply that they come with everything, just extras.
4th A "Season Pass" is a subscription to all DLC in a given "Season", a "Season" being a period between 3-12 months.
5th The keys bought by GMG are retail keys, same as the boxed version which also only comes with 8 DLCs, just like you get from Amazon, Gamefly,Gamestop and many others.
6th Paradox retail keys are all Steam redeemable but are not all "Steam" keys.
7th Steam does things their own way because they are a retailer & a delivery service, they can give you whatever they want when you buy from them.

No it's not misleading, and in the description (if you hit read more....) tells you EXACTLY what you get. It is a collection of something, not COMPLETE.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That Collection was complete at some point in time, it's just that Paradox kept releasing more DLCs for the game and created a new collection, called exactly the same as the old collection. You could get "Game X Complete", then the publisher releases new DLC and ceates a new "Game X Complete" package. Your "complete" package would not be complete anymore. Blame publishers for not changing the name on their products when the product themselves changes.

The one and only time I've had cause to use their support system they sorted out my problem with little fuss. That's just plain bad luck, OP.

It would have been great if they offered you a refund given the confusion over the titling, but some places have strict no-refund policies once a key has been dispatched, given they have no direct way to confirm if the key has been redeemed or not. This is why I always, Always, ALWAYS read the details when purchasing a bundle/collection type game.

If you wanted to try something else, though a longshot, you could try writing a (POLITE) email directly to the developers, explaining the confusion caused by the naming of the Magicka packages, and how it personally effected you. It's unlikely that they would have a way to verify the state of the key and contact GMG on your behalf for a refund, but you could at least nudge them towards a potential rename of their product, and save other people the same frustration.

While this might sour your opinion of GMG, try to remember that every business ends up being strangled by their own policies, due to trying to combat abusers. I doubt you would have had much better luck asking for a refund from other online distribution groups, although funnily enough, I think one that WOULD have refunded you is EA/Origin. Despite their general irksome/bad policies and such, due to their size they are more willing to offer refunds, or failing that, offer you compensatory vouchers. Man, giving praise to EA/Origin feels just plain weird.

I'd suggest OP pull down this post. . . He's already admitting to performing criminal activity and is at the point of no return. He fails to see his mistake or listen to this community and it will all be downhill from here. OP is about to be unable to make any online purchases for a set amount of time after stating that he bypassed GMG's policy and pulled his funds (something this community hates due to all the games later revoked;). OP I plea of you you are 100% in the wrong and you are attacking people and they are attacking you. You are also are performing public slander. please just end this thread . . . before anymore damage is done.

Edit: even if you are trolling you have suggested the crime of Fraud. . . and are really slandering a company.
