I'm more of a sidelines kind of guy, but this is a great idea.

actually i really want to, but dunno if my computer/internet connection would withstand all of that, we'll see i have 100mb/s download but the upload - 8mb/s so aint that great.

I think we will need to get some rules done until the date comes, like after say 3 or 4 hours all players must go near the portal to fight, so it won't be going on forever :P

Ok so this random thought just run into my head to make a PVP tournament of don't starve together. I can set up a dedicated server, think that 2 weeks from now will be a good date.
Here's the time of the event

RULES Phase 1 (Start)

1: All players connect to the server and wait by the portal. (picture 1)
2: Each player will chose one chest (stand by it) (picture 2-3)
3: Don't look inside the chest until the countdown ends.
4: You can't take stuff from other "starter" chests, any player that will do so, will get kicked from the game.
5: After the countdown all hell brakes loose, you can kill other players, run as far as you want, feel free to do anything.

1: All players will have 2 hours after the countdown to collect stuff, prepare or kill other players.
2: After these 2 hours, every player that is still alive will be teleported to the arena (picture 4)

4: Last one alive is the winner.
