I wasn't really surprised myself since the games listed were Counter Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source. These were the first games that I purchased since I remember with either money I got from Christmas/Birthday I purchased the double pack that included both CSS and DODS. I remember then buying HL2 shortly after that... since I remember I needed/wanted it so I could play the different mods, since most mods required hl2 base.
But if you are talking the first game I actually bought from steam, then that would be HL2 - but HL2 wasn't listed on that list for qualifying games.

Actually less embarrassed than expected. My first purchase was 3 games at once for $22:
Last Dream: an rpgmaker game actually worth the money, lots of effort put into it and a huge world to compulsively explore. It struck that nostalgic chord of the original Final Fantasy style JRPG
FATE: Classic dungeon crawler, oh god the nostagia of this purchase is too much to handle
Long Live The Queen: One of my favorite buys of all time. One of the hardest games I've ever played. You get to repeatedly murder a princess over tiny ass mistakes in talent distrubution. I spent a week huddled over it like a crazy person and that pink haired child didn't live once. RIP Elodie, you live on in my heart.

Spellforce Complete, only bought it because my bro wanted to chat with me on Steam, and I needed to make a Steam account anyway because I wanted Skyrim on PC... (I bought it during the winter sale 2012, had it on 360 on release (wife still wasn't converted to PC back then, so I had no choice...)
To soften my surrender to Steam, he gave me Counter Strike: Source and The next BIG thing...

Mine was the exact same as yours! I'm actually in the process of installing (downloading) it for the Spring Cleaning event.;)

Counter Strike Anthology, basically classic cs&friends(but not tf classic for some reason). I took it borrowed from a friend, and we both didn't know that I had to create an account for it and that I would be stuck with that game forever. Needless to say I never returned the game :p
He never asked back also so it's his fault.
But now he has family sharing linked to my account, so I guess that counts.

So using this new Spring Cleaning event, I got to see what my first steam game I had was. And it wasn't what I thought it was.
So, as usual, I got to thinking. What was your first steam game?
Mine was Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Game had SUCH potential, but the game breaking bugs killed it for me.
So, what was your first steam game?
Edit- Added a small GA for you all as thanks for making this the most successful topic I have ever made on SG.
