Lootboxes seem to sell well, considering how many bundles of this type we had recently. What's your opinion on them?
I got five and out of the five, two were repeats which I now got put up. I tried to get one more but they put a hold on my account as they thought the buying of 5 in a row was "fraud". Now the sale is over and they still don't got my account fixed. You think they'd have a better system where you could buy more then one at a time, and if they believe the account was hacked or used by someone other then you, that they could send out a verify code so you could prove that it's really you buying the bundles.

True lol maybe they will bring it back with new games

I've heard of people doing chargebacks with mystery bundles like this before, but is it really that common? Seems like a really extreme reaction. I mean, in this case doing that would mean never using Fanatical again (assuming they ban anyone who does a chargeback).

This has ended, I see. A couple of games that I'm truly intersted in, but wouldn't risk it. Would have to be crazy to waste almost 5EUR on something I will never play (because let's face it, that's what would happen).

I confirm. Last time they did this, I only got three (good) games I already owned. Ended up giving them away but still, it's playing russian roulette with money. I'd rather keep my cash for actual discounts and bundles than for blind items.

And to make this even worse (for me at least), you don't know which game you got until you activate the key. So you can't even trade it with other unless you already own the game :/

Oh, it does? Alright, that's good then, I know that for example Groupees wouldn't let you know, assumed it'd be the same for Fanatical.

Thank God it's ended. Temptation is over. I did not give in. LOL!

Earlier today I bought a mystery game, and I got one game I already had that was previously given away by Steam! The only way it could've been worse was if it was a key giveaway from a store like Humble! So I cant even get CV for it. I was thinking about buying another one since I was thinking "it can only get better from here" since I there's at least a dozen of the possible drops I'd keep, but then they ended the damn thing. Didnt even get a reminder after favoriting it!
Oh well, perhaps its for the better in case it was tapping into an addictive itch for me.

The hype that surrounded this particular 'Mystery Game' sale is pretty interesting. I thought the majority of people avoided things like this, I still think they do; but with the near viral success of this sale I think we will see it again.
Good news for Fanatical, but is it good news for us? How did this happen? Do most of us agree this is not a very good habit?

No good news for me, I hope we don't get to see such "bundles" from Fanatical every 2 weeks now :(

I agree, but there must be a reason so many people took the plunge on this. Even I bought one, which I regret.
Speaking for myself, the list of games that had been given out seemed at least worth the $4. Well, at least most of them to me. That is the reason I bought one even though I usually don't support this kind of 'sale'.

Some reasons why I personally bought this:
To answer why people took the plunge: I think its safe to say that many of the 20%+ in OP's poll who bought once or more share reasons #1 and #3 in some fashion, with some also agreeing with #2. For some people, there may also be an addictive motivation that made this buy easier, but for some there may not have been.

2)No u cant cause u dont know what game u get
3)Same as #2 and u such a ...'SG groups that will kick me if it stays too low for too long (which may be soon for one of them)'...

2 & 3) Buy and reveal keys at your own risk, but the last time I did a mystery bundle, here is what happened: Game name doesn't show at first when viewing the order page for Deluxe Mystery Game, but after clicking to reveal the key, Fanatical then showed the game name.
Therefore, people are given the game name after key reveal and can choose to either redeem the key, trade it, or gift it.

It's a terrible habit and the precedent it sets is not good imo, but as it is plain to see there are plenty of people with poor (or no) impulse control when it comes to things like gambling. I don't waste my time or money of stuff like this because I realize that chances are I will probably regret the end result and I have the discipline to follow through on that. It's similar to one of the main reasons why I haven't given Groupees a red cent in well over 2 years now. I'm not crazy about the idea of buying something blind to begin with though honestly Groupees doesn't make the decision too hard. The only reason they are still in the game bundle business is because of my first sentence.

I was watching some guy on youtube, Agry Joe I think and he made a good point about Madden games. They have been destroyed by micro-transactions, and yet people keep buying it. Its a cycle, in that the reason many game(s) don't get better is because there are many people that will support this behavior with their wallets.
It is kinda like rewarding bad behavior I guess. I fell for it this time, and I hardly ever do these things. Ah well live and learn xD

I have to say that after i got 2 times Civ V, i mailed them complaining about hte fact that they give free keys and they refound 1 of the purchases.

Revealing the key revealed the game name for me. Anyone else who doesn't see the game name should report it to Fanatical support or use a different browser. Not buying is an option too.

Hey, you are right! Now it's showing!
Thanks for letting us know! ^^

They let you refund? Somehow I didn't think they would accept refunds for mystery games (definitely would have done so myself otherwise, still have my Civilization V key sitting unused from the last Deluxe Mystery bundle but I'm sure its too late by now to do anything about it).

Got Civilization V last time (which had already been rebundled 5+ times), no way in hell I'm risking it again.
