Growing up poor I was happy as hell. I had a pink womens bike from the 60's that barely worked and I didn't care. Rode the wheels off that thing. When I wasn't catching reptiles and amphibians. Then dad got a good job and I found video games beyond pong on a monochrome screen existed and my life was never the same.
cheers

Your story sounds quite similar to mine.
As a kid I always saw the friends from school having the fancy toys or the newest lunchbox or bag but it never really bothered me much.
I had this forest right outside my home where after school me and the neighborhood kids would spend our time in until dark.
And then discovered the mighty PC and here we are.
I think a lot is about perspective and how you decide to see the world.

my grandparents also had one of those fancy console tv's made of wood with big speakers on the sides. That thing was color though
Oh man... yes, I know what you mean. Those old consoles (especially the ones that had the built-in amplifier, tuner and turntable) were heavy as hell to lift. While they don't make anything with long lasting quality these days, those things were awkward if you have to carry it around narrow corners and up/down the stairs.

My aunt and uncle kept the one my grandparents had when they sold their house. Hard to believe that thing still worked (the stereo part anyway, because they never tried using an analog-to-digital converter box to see if the TV still did). It was kept in pristine condition, up until their house burned down last year. 😢

Is it because of the religious connotations? Is it becz of seeing so many people blissfully happy, without a worry? Is it the blatant consumerism and the irony of thinking so while on SG? Or are you a simply Santa hater!? 😈
Me? Im mostly apathetic, if it makes them happy, good for them. I dont enjoy celebrating myths and spirituality like I used to. And Im okay with that, no plans of ever going back to it.
(Food, Music and smiling people are a plus tho.)

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

I had a parrot. The parrot talked all the time, but it did not say I’m hungry, so it died.

Everyone has something they just don't like.🙄
I have nothing against Christmas.
It is a region where drunks who hate Christmas call out the identity of Santa and where dreams and hopes are lacking and withered infants abound.
It is depressing to observe such things from an extraterrestrial perspective.
I also have every right to dislike someone who has allowed the custom of lying on my birthday to take root on the planet. I wonder who it was.🤔…
Well, I think there was a consideration that the history of what we now call commercial Christmas is about the same as the history of Coca-Cola. If you have the time, you might want to look into that.
It will be interesting to see how they react to the divergence between before and now. 🎅🛷🌏 🔭😊

I come from a small middle-class background. When i was a kid, at Christmas the family would suddenly get together without getting into a fight, the atmosphere was good, the food was plentiful, and there was at least one present for everyone under the tree. We also loved Easter in the same way : it was the only time of the year when chocolates were plentiful. :p
Now i'm among the low-class in a rich country, in my country the poor consume at Christmas and the rich preach anti-consumerism, a bit like the poor who spend what little money they have on gambling. Maybe because they try to recreate a more optimistic era that once existed and is no longer, maybe because they console themselves in rare moments by making others and themselves happy.
Finally this period is the atmosphere you create for others and for yourself, so at least... take care of yourself

grew up relatively poor and with not much family, so no big gifts, but I still got something & always enjoyed christmas. This year is the first time I genuinely f**king hate christmas due to a mixture of personal issues, job stress related to the crazy shopping and family issues.
But whatever, soon it's over and everyone moves on with their normal routines.
Really like the two songs though, 2nd one which I already knew.

With 2 hard working parents working harder on holidays, I've never cared about holidays. I wouldn't say I hate them, but to me they have always been days where friends/family are having fun together and I'm alone taking care of stuff.
