Why does everyone believe Kotaku?
Penny Arcade posted an article about this. The complained that the only gameplay mechanic Crytek showed was quick-time events, but the details they provided about them were that they affected the rewards from the kill and how impressive it looked.
This is the right way to do quick-time events. Do you really want the quick-time event to determine if you succeed in the kill? Let the more complex gameplay elements determine that, and leave the QTE to do what Crytek is doing here.
(And by saying "Why does everyone believe Kotaku?" I also mean, why does Xarabas, who obviously holds Kotaku in such low esteem that he's not willing to link to it, is willing to take what Kotaku said at face value? That doesn't compute.)

It's called "reading" for a reason. If you actually believe that Crytek's implementation has no effect on the game, then you obvious didn't read what I wrote, didn't bother to check the facts, and you definitely do fit in the camp that would rather sit back and do nothing.
Edit: And to save people having to go back...
What QTE's do in Ryse is determine the rewards you get for the kill, and how that kill looks in the cinematic. The kill itself isn't determined by QTE's. Far as I'm concerned, this is the best way that QTE's can be used. They're not a great mechanic, but if they're used it's good that the result itself isn't determined by them, but the magnitude of it is, so they're not meaningless.

I rather have QTE's that are hard and can lead to defeat than this "cinematic" experience.
I see no point in having a game mechanic, if you win anyway.
"You can go to school and just sleep all day and we still give you your diploma, but only with the minimum score required to pass. If you learn, then you can have a higher score!"
See the problem? Having "easy mode" isn't motivating at all. Why should you invest time to become better at a game if you can't lose anyway? It's just plain boring.
And for your information, I did read your post, I did understand what you were saying but I don't agree with you. Understanding and Agreeing is something completely different.

If you read my post, then why did you say "If I want to sit back and do nothing..."? If you're not interested in getting better rewards or seeing a better looking kill then yes, you can sit back. If you like to go through a game in the simplest way possible, do the minimum, not try to get the most out of it, then yes, you might get bored. I can understand that some gamers prefer to be forced to take the hard way, because they often don't have motivation otherwise. That's why adventure gamers don't like optional hints and action players don't want the option of a guided cursor, because they know they'll take the easy way out (or because they feel cheated that others might take the easy way out). It's okay.
IMO QTE's suck. Even here they just slow down combat for cinematics. But if they're there and if they determined the outcome of combat, that would have been much worse than how Crytek implemented it, because you'd have that person you just defeated, and you're going for a killing stroke, and then what, you miss and he staggers back already half dead and you strike again, until you finally hit? That would just feel so bullshit. You already defeated that guy in two seconds, you suffered through another couple of seconds of cinematics, do you really want to drag that to 15 seconds? Do you really want to have to waste time on this enemy you can kill with one sword blow just because of some stupid QTE?
Getting rid of QTE's altogether would have been best. Save them for big fights that last more than a second. But Crytek put them there, and players can use them to get rewards (whatever they may be) and a more visceral kill, and players that think it's bullshit or just don't feel like using them can ignore them if they want, and get a bit less.

They've finally listened to gamers. I was so tired of having to do hard stuff. Now I can relax after a hard day and play a game that isn't going to cause me any challenges. I love the cinematics!

Well it is a game for the Xbone.
Maybe this is for easy/normal mode?
Maybe on hard mode you have to take control sometimes.

I know, I was wondering why everyone seemed so interested in the Drivatar aspect of the series. It sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

Wow, that sounds really, really awful. It's actually really sad when you think about it.
player goes to get a drink
enemy approaches player character to kill them
...
quicktime event starts
player character automatically dodges attack and kills enemy
... but in reality it would be more like this:
player goes to work
comes back and the game is finished with all achievements
