that's a bug in steam key redeem wizard. if you tried to redeem and failed and then try another key of different game (without closing the wizard) it will give you the name of previous game you tried.

lol this is the second time I already own the game .. but nice anyway

It seems the ball stopped again - that's why the rule "write the name" is, to stop when the bots come ;)

and that would be a pity, since there's 48 more... ;)

well, somebody said it's spacechem, so there's DLC for it - X0BNW-CVR7V-CNDE2

Well, perhaps the solution to that is to pop a key in to a full out paragraph with some modified stuff in it, for instance, GRZEY-NLQ*C-V2IM4. There's this silly little key here that may be a steam key for Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron, and strangely enough the color black and color white mixed make a color that could be pretty useful figuring out the last little bit you might need. :)

At least, some people said thanks and it makes me happy :D

C'mon Ninjas time to join Samurai clan. Tell us who got the last key?

Ok, ten minutes, and we will continue ;) It's christmas time!

Dude, could I ask you a favor? Please, when posting keys, don't just post a key exactly as it needs to be entered. There's hundreds of people running bots to check the forums for keys, who automatically redeem them within seconds, which is kind of unfair and scummy.. Anyway, when you post a key, post it something like this:
That prevents bots grabbing all the keys, because people now have to actually read the post and enter the key manually. Bots won't detect an incomplete key..

I didn't know this could be done, and you would think the mods would be able to do something about it. Can they?
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think someone is using bot.. dunno btw :\
Comment has been collapsed.
That is actually a splendid idea, thank you! But, apart from riddles, will appending a character or two at the end of the code suffice?:)
Comment has been collapsed.
No, only taking parts out of a key will prevent bots being triggered, not adding on to it, as there's still a complete key right there. Some people even have bots that can resolve a key from words describing the characters to enter, if they've coded them smart enough.
What I posted isn't really a riddle, it's an instruction that you have to literally follow. Just do it like I explained, and all will be alright. No bot can be programmed well enough to understand a full sentence in English. Or, well, it could be made, but it'd be far more than a simple, small, low resource costing bot coded in, say, Python.

Does anyone have any proof there are actually bots running around? This forum is easily read by dozens of people with activation windows at the ready and copy-pasting doesn't exactly take a lot of time.
Obfuscating the key will still prevent the people who blindly claim everything from getting there first, but I don't hold much stock in the idea that we're besieged by bots. I guess only cg could know.

Why / how would cg know? And trust me, there's a gazillion people with bots. Bots that can take keys from forums just as easily as from Steam chats. There's even bots that crawl across multiple websites over the internet, like search engine crawlers. And they range from PC experts who coded them and add features themselves, to end users who only know how to turn them on and wait.

"Why / how would cg know?"
It's a fair thing to assume the botters would be distinguishable by the requests they make -- even if they're hooked into the browser itself and use identical headers you could distinguish the request patterns from a human F5'ing. Of course you can make your bot hide itself by obfuscating, but nobody's going to do that unless they thought the site owners cared, which they don't.
"And trust me, there's a gazillion people with bots."
I won't argue bots exist. I'm just arguing that you don't know if they're being used here. Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by sufficient people with dedication.
Even so, there's also a gazillion people without bots who would claim a key and run. And in the end, we're talking about someone dropping stuff for free. Demanding that everyone get on an "even level" somehow strikes me as silly. We have the giveaway mechanism exactly to enforce this; if you're doing it without it it shouldn't be a surprise that it's not going to be fair. Tough cookies.
But hey, I don't want to leave it on a sour note. Here's something that even the most fervent bot-hater should appreciate: you take "A Fair Maiden Picking 9 Green Flowers Preciously, Meticulously, Extraordinarily" and you join that up with "Driving 4 Inexpensive Little Cars", but you have to reverse the part with the cars first before you join it up, and put in the hyphens yourself. Do all that and you'll have a King's Bounty, delivered by Warriors of the North.

Ninja'd the key, thanks!
For what it's worth, I think you're quite right. There's a lot of very fast people watching this thread, and not all of them are logged in. It seems silly to assume extremely capable bots when the reality is probably just that there's someone out there faster than you.
Comment has been collapsed.
This isn't really good enough anti-bot protection. Some bots will still be able to understand this simple an input, if coded well enough. Just do it with characters left out to reduce the chance of a bot even seeing a key to try and interpret, and type a full sentence with typed out words describing the characters instead of simple character substitutions, like in my example. For this key, it'd be something like:

Hello!
As it is the season of giving and be merry, I'd like to contribute my share of steam codes (mainly from old bundles, but there are some bigger titles as well) as gifts for all the good ninjas out there.
The rules of this game are:
1) I will post a code for a random game from my collection.
2) The person who redeems the code successfully writes the name of game he or she got in this thread
3) I will repeat the step 1) as long as I will still have games left, and nobody drops the ball by not posting the game name ;) So keep the gift train going!
And please - be considerate and if you got a present, let the others get some too!
Have fun!
The first code will come in about ten minutes :)
