Congratulations! The only video game + illness related thing I can think of is when I was a kid; my mother wouldn't let me play video games if I was home sick. This way my brother and I wouldn't try and fake being ill to stay home all day... XD Regardless, glad you pulled through!

Had some GI distress a couple months ago, ended up on a liquid diet or not eating at all for two weeks straight while they ran all kinds of tests. It was absolutely miserable, especially the last couple tests which required anesthesia and lots of laxatives.
Whether I was up late taking meds or unable to sleep or too sick to work, I played a ton of video games. A bunch of Portal 2 co-op, Harley Quinn's Revenge, Guild Wars 2, and some Quantum Conundrum (along with some other stuff.) It really helped to pass the time or take my mind off the pain, as well as all the anxiety. I was prescribed Xanax at one point, but I hate taking those kinds of pills. Gaming, Steam chat, and reddit were engaging enough that I didn't need to medicate my mind after all.
I'm not 100% healthy yet, but feeling better. Still playing too many games, though.

My latest tests came back and I survived my cancer and treatments. I used video games to remove myself from the experience. They helped me forget how sick I was. I found that indie games were the best to keep me busy during this time, as well as point and click adventures. Tripwire's Killing Floor was a blast for me, I played the hell out of it with my friends while doing my treatment.
Anyone else have similar stories? Games that helped them through rough times?
