I approve this!
Minor suggestion: If you invite someone and this person is doing a successful giveaway you should lose your responsibility as this person proves to be a great addition to this site. Won't really affect those of us, who only invited friends :)

Moderation is required in any community. Even more when it involves a bunch of trolls who consider giving people false hope "fun".

With the gears turning and the every machinery all getting rusty, now i see all of you guys have finally come to your senses. I'm all for this idea and dearly pray this won't become like as it has for SGS. My only regret is that I still miss that o'l community we all used to share and love dearly.
btw keep up the good work Cult, Rj, and especially Cg. :D
Always watching,

I just saw a black ops giveaway vanish, I believe the user was blocked?
Anyway, I think some karma/rep status could help, maybe lock the number of giveaways you can enter/create, according to acc. age and participation, althou you can't consider the # of posts to that, everyone will keep posting "Thank you" and that's not a contribution at all.
The idea of forcing a giveaway before entering any is also something I'd consider, even if it's just portal.
One other thing is force the first X giveaways to be games you own. I wouldn't give Farcry2 if I didn't already own it, for example..

I disagree on your last point. Some people buy the daily deal just to give away, even if it doesn't interest them - we just like to support indie developers.

My first two gifts were daily deals as I couldn't afford to give otherwise, and I only bought one of them for myself after the fact. I just think that stipulation would discourage new legitimate gifters.

Maybe fix a price limit for the first giveaways then, don't let people giveaway a $30~50 game as soon as they're in, for example?
Some kind of karma based on several variables could help, then. You have 100 games, and was invited by someone who gave 3 games already, so your karma is good to go. He has 20 games of an average $5 value, and he's trying to give a $50 giveaway? no-no.. Something like that?

Yes, that makes much more sense. Someone who joined today giving away a $50 game right off the bat will always scream fishy, maybe 1 in 10 being a legitimate gifter.

I'm replying to random posts in obscure spaces with a link to my private giveaway. Sorry to post here.

I agree that those that create fake giveaways should be banned, but not that people that invite said members. I know a lot of people are invited through reddit communities like r/playitforward, and someone should not be punished on top of someone posing as decent screwing them out of an invite - I and many others check the post histories of people we invite, but that doesn't keep a determined troll from faking one. Maybe if the person that inadvertently gave a troll an invite has a legitimate completed giveaway, they should be cleared of responsibility.

Indeed, I've always felt that people who sold invites, or invited people who did, should be banned to kill of that kind of cancerous behaviour - I feel the same regarding those who create fake giveaways.
I should be responsible for the actions of those I invite, and so too should anyone else be responsible for those they invite.

Minor suggestion: Only people who maded a (real) giveaway can invite other people. This would solve several problems. They would certainly be careful about who they invite.

I'm going to put this here... shhh, it's private and secret.

No it doesn't. Otherwise everyone would just create private ones to generate unlimited points ;)

The time has come my friends. This is absurd. Fake giveaways and irresponsible inviting are hurting this community and Cult's sanity. I think the time for this free land of steam gifts should come to an end. I believe those who make fake giveaways and those who invited said people should be punished (banned or points disabled for a certain amount of time). CG has enough to do with updates and keeping this site up for more then 5 mins. However, I think mods should be given the power to do this. Remember invite responsibly.
