It is not the first time certain aspects used in daily life are "locked down" in Russia. Also, keep in mind Russia is not necessarily WESTERN. Westerners love to mock on Russia because of our so-called "open beliefs" (btw I am from Western Europe and lived in Russia). I think much of the news coming from the west is pretty exaggerated or only viewed "from our perspective" on how freedom should look like. If you look at Russian history, you will meet similar events already present during the reign of the Tsars. Just to name a few examples (correct me if I am wrong):
Tsar Ivan IV Grozny (1530 - 1584): Stand against me and I practically kill you
Tsar Peter the Great (1672 - 1725): prohibiting more or less the Russian orthodox church to gain power by excluding them from government, brutally suppressing uprisings in order to modernize 18th century Russia according to western standards and so on.
Ekatarina (Catherine) II the great (1729 - 1796): banning Alexander Radischev because he critized Tsarina Catherine the great
Alexander I: Alexander Pushkin being imprisoned because a poem of his was found during the Decembrist Uprising of 1925
These measures for me don't come as surprising (though I might not necessarily agree with them). Interestingly, as you will see if you read the Russian history, a great man or woman rises up as Tsar(ina), Leader or president, conducting his or her politics for a lifetime or a long time only to see if the person passes away, a new person rises up and brings about other changes (be them in favor of the international standard or not). This said, the contemporary world is unpredictable and change will happen. The only thing we do not know is, in what direction.

That's absolutely true: Putin did it so that only he himself could have the access to the site and win all the games from you!

I hate situatons like this. In reality terrorist attacks are really really small % of crimes. Sure its bad when people dies, and its scarry that they may steal important data, but worst thing terrorists do is spreading fear... And both media and goverments tend to overuse it.
Im alredy angry that Europe pushed "obligatory prepaid phones registration" "because of terrorists". -. - Pure bullshit.
People were wondering if future distopia will be one described by Orwell or Huxly... And were slowly getting mix of both.

Mood Music before you read ahead
so i just found out that Putin has pulled the switch on the Internets in Russia and banned around 16 million IP addresses including Office365, PSN, XBox network, Windows Updates and worse of all this site. so now we gotta either say goodbye to our Ruskie comrades or find a way to help them win this war , warning it might get a bit cold. the reason for this ban is to get rid of a communication app called Telegram. cause its encrypted and the maker wouldn't hand the encryption keys. which makes him a terrorist. cause only terrorists use this app , which is why the KGB needs those decryption codes. when he wouldn't hand the codes over , they sued him and the court decided that the app must be blocked since they weren't cooperating or even trying to be nice.even though they asked nicely , he wouldn't hand the keys over. so now all our Ruskie friends are being brave and fighting for the motherland , by forsaking sites such as this one.

Edit1: since some people are actually daft enough to think i am seriously blaming putin and not understand that i am trying to lighten up the thing by joking around then i will further explain it here. it was the russian FBI that sued Telegram and moved on to do this. it even says that in the sources i listed. also PLEASE read the sources. REALLY hate to explain the jokes , but i feel the need since this is a bit serious.
