Quick question. I bought the Ultimate pack some time ago, also bought the Hotwheels DLC. I assumed the currently free DLC pack is everything else I could be missing, but SteamDB lists the following DLCs as unowned, along with the treasure map. Are they basically just packs that were available as single cars in the Ultimate Edition, or am I actually missing content?

  • Forza Horizon 4 Open Top Car Pack
  • Forza Horizon 4 Japanese Heroes Car Pack
  • Forza Horizon 4: British Sports Car Car Pack
  • Forza Horizon 4: Any Terrain Car Pack
  • Forza Horizon 4: Performance Car Pack (Forza Horizon 4: High Performance Car Pack)
  • Forza Horizon 4: Icons Car Pack

You are not missing anything in game, they are all included in the Car Pass you own, just sold separately as car packs.

Hot Wheels aside, these are the only DLCs that are not part of the Ultimate Edition:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1443010/Forza_Horizon_4_1979_Talbot_Sunbeam_Lotus/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1443082/Forza_Horizon_4_Mitsubishi_Car_Pack/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1443011/Forza_Horizon_4_1967_Sunbeam_Tiger/

You already own the Mitsubish pack, not sure about the two other DLCs (which are just one car each lol).
The Treasure Map as well as the Hot Wheels pack are not available anymore.
And I just noticed that the three links are in the OP, I didn't have to look for them...

(and Atro answered your question about the other packs not marked as owned, you'll see them in-game if you have Ultimate)

Don't get me wrong, 80% is a great discount for any game! It's just that I haven't played a racing game since "NFS: Most Wanted" in 2005 lol. With zero natural interest in the game, I'm lured here only for the sake of "the deal".

I got 860 hours from it (Ultimate Edition, both expansions and all cars except Hot Wheels DLC). Got most achievements up to what I'm able without grinding one of the events.
I still made a review not recommending it, tho I've been the first person AFAIK to find the solution to the unfixed bug that caused my negative review. I bet that most people who bumped into the bug (sooner or later, everyone who goes a bit into the game), don't know that there's actually a fix. The bug has been there for so long that people automatically answers any question about it with a "no fix, deal with it". Which is what I got for months, too.

I was getting 1-2 passes daily until the event I told you above 3 days ago. Then the Backstage pass bug appeared. You simply stop getting them. You do what you need to do to earn them, but you go to Backstage and you have 0 passes. In fact I've won today a Super7 High Stakes, didn't touch any button so the game shows you (as if you were in a TV program) all you've won. And the Backstage pass doesn't even appear. I've done 7 challenges but only 6 rewards appear.

There's a Backstage thingy which holds a big chunk of cars, many of them great cars. To get one of them you need a Backstage Pass. This can be earned in various ways, but as WaxWorm quoted from my review, you stop getting them sooner or later. I've researched about this bug for long, all I found was that too many people got it, it had no known fix, and in an announcement the developers decided to stop spending money in development and left the bug unfixed. Only maintenance, which was not much, once every six months.

As I said in my review, I understand there's a point where spending more money developing an "old" game (subjectively speaking) is no good business. But if you're stopping development, leave the game playable in the important areas. I consider the Backstage an important part since it holds many valuable cars, for nostalgia or performance. Leaving that part bugged was unacceptable to me. And they still were selling the game with that bug, ofc not telling it was there.

Can you imagine a RTS game with a 70 mission campaign and "oh we have to stop development, btw the bug at mission 30 still exist, but hey, you can play 29 missions, all the skirmishes you want, and of course multiplayer PVP". Coincidentally a few months later the multiplayer servers go down, I bought the game for the campaign and some skirmishes, but the skirmishes are only fun with weekly challenges, without them they are repetitive. Just an example where it's unethical to stop development leaving big bugs unfixed.

I found a way to solve it totally accidentally, but you need an expansion that you've not visited before the bug affecting you. Now it's useless, because servers are going down and you'll have other methods to get Backstage cars.

Said that, for 20 bucks for the Ultimate edition is a bargain. You'll still get a lot of content, fun, and some frustration.

(Sorry, I'm unable to explain things briefly.)

I doubt FH4 will live up to the expectations, but it is still a quite a fun and beautiful racing game. From what I've heard, the engine sounds are most authentic in FH4. There is certainly a lot to do and it was definitely an experience worth my money. I still think there are better racing games out there with more depth than FH4, but I still think it's the best (still available) game up on stores right now.

Today's standards are so low that a somewhat exceptional game that just barely scrapes the surface expectations is good is most certainly quite baffling. It was worth it for 20€ since it's such a big and expensive title and you really won't get any experience like it with licensed cars outside of Forza unfortunately, as far as open world games go.

Personally I don't think they'll go lower. They don't need it. It's a big game, big map, 700 cars, at 80% off it's a great opportunity. In the last sale of the year (I guess it'll go 80% during winter sale, tho it'll be delisted in the middle of the sale) people will still be waiting for a 85 or 90% off, but i don't think it'll happen, so some people will get it because "last chance - FOMO", and the people who can't afford 20 bucks (or local price) for a game will be left without that great opportunity.

Personally, I'd advice people like you who want the game, to save a bit so you can get it at 80% at the last time. And if it gets lower, well, better for all of you. I wish that would happen, but IMHO 80% is the lower it'll go; and I wish I'm wrong about that!

Expect the best, but prepare for the worst.

Just a reminder gathering all that's needed to know, I think.

I received today notice from the Forza newsletter:

Until delisting, Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition will be 80% off on Xbox and Steam, with Steam's discount starting on November 27th. This includes the Fortune Island and LEGO Speed Champions expansions, as well as VIP Membership, Car Pass, Best of Bond Car Pack, and Formula Drift Car Pack.

So as I guessed, 80% will be the maximum discount until delisted on Dec 15th. No 90%, sorry for those who were hoping for it. You can start getting that 80% discount in about a week, on Nov 27th. Ultimate Edition includes every DLC except three FREE ones ('Mitsubishi Car Pack', '1967 Sunbeam Tiger', any '1979 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus'), and the retired from store 'Hot Wheels™ Legends Car Pack'. The Treasure Map DLC is unavailable as well.

I'm not sure how these three DLCs will be available after game being delisted, so you can add them from Steamdb, just click the install button (after purchasing the game, of course). First one is the Mitsubishi Car Pack which is still available for free claiming at the FH4 store page. So besides the links in the OP, here are the SteamDB pages:
https://steamdb.info/app/1443082/
https://steamdb.info/app/1443010/
https://steamdb.info/app/1443011/

If you're in doubt, I got 800 hours of fun from this, paying more and it's still the non-idle game that got the cheapest hour of fun in my library. If you like arcade open world racers with 700 cars, get it. You can always refund it if you aren't convinced before the 2 hour limit for refunding (just in case, don't get too close, set up a countdown or something).

Almost everyone pulled support from Win 7, so it's not wise to stay on it. Probably a lot of people will do the same with Win 10, just as they did with XP or 7, until Microsoft really pulls the plug. No idea what would happen after that. A really small amount of people switching to Linux but sadly majority don't know what an OS is or don't care.

Yeah, I understand. Complete change is a big step unless you are a bit familiar with it. You can play with it on a spare laptop if you have something like that though. Nowadays, there are immutable distros. Meaning, the user cannot mess around with the system. Something like Android. Though, some things learned better when you messed. :)

Anyway, hope you find yourself something satisfying as an OS, even if it's from Microsoft. :)

If users stay stubborn and don't migrate to Win 11 from a threat assessment perspective M$ HAS to support Win 10 for all users beyond their announced deadline. Otherwise there will be a bloodbath.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, we'll see how will it go next year. Some people already don't like their forced upgrade to Win 11 and rollback to Win 10. That forced account thing is also a problem that needs to be answered.

I believe there is a sweet spot to gain acceleration for Linux and I feel we're close to it. But knowing standard end user don't ever install an OS on their own, it's still an issue for many.

Permalink

I was thinking of side loading, and I the only laptop that I could label as "spare" doesn't have nearly enough storage for that, lol. And I do want to mess the system, at least a little bit... Eh.

Although I'm personally not interested in Windows.

If you were to "only" have access to the solo/offline parts of the game, which is like 90% of the game, no, it wouldn't change much. You wouldn't have access to PvP races, PvPvE/PvE ("co-op") races, and some BR mode (The Eliminator), as well as community-made content.
You'll still have access to the map, the official races, as well as the expansions and cars if you buy them.

But, as I said in my previous reply, that if in the "if they drop the account requirement" is not happening.

Hope that answers your question(s).

Just to clarify, while I did buy the game, I absolutely agree with you that requiring an Xbox account is annoying... There isn't even cross-saving, so why? Can't they make crossplay without that requirement like a lot of games do?

Permalink

Well, it answers pretty much perfectly. Thanks.

There isn't even cross-saving, so why? Can't they make crossplay without that requirement like a lot of games do?

Since it's all within an Xbox account, it should've been available. Even Age of Empires 2 has cross-play.

You are very welcome!

Ah, let me rephrase/reword. Edit: just noticed I said "cross-saving" instead of "cross-progression" in my original message... Slightly different technically but still the same point.

It requires an Xbox account, it has crossplay (I'm on PC, I can play with an Xbox friend), but not cross-progression (I got 10 cars and XP level 50 on Xbox, I have to start over on Steam).
Fictitious examples to illustrate what I mean.

What I said is that, since it doesn't have cross-progression, I don't see why it requires the Xbox account, as there are multiplayer games that offer crossplay without needing to create/link an account specifically for the game (aside from the launcher).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah I see. Yeah that sucks. Wouldn't two different save files for the same account be a problem though? They probably just save the online progression.

I don't see why it requires the Xbox account, as there are multiplayer games that offer crossplay without needing to create/link an account specifically for the game (aside from the launcher).

I only know Age of Empires series like that but maybe they do that for Xbox games, the games that their PC adaptation come later.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Cross-progression would be sort of a valid reason for always online (although they could also just make the player choose which save to keep, like Steam Cloud does for example).
Or like Hitman, where offline gameplay (not "progression") is separate from online (and doesn't give XP and stuff, since those are online things). Hitman however is singleplayer only - save for that one mode in H2 that was killed anyway - so always online isn't justified in this case, but that's another story.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It seems like just an excuse for a Microsoft account and they didn't even make it good.

Hitman's version is one of the worst. Hiding the progression behind being online sucks. I don't know what were they thinking. It's not just about being online, if their server is not online you cannot get progression either. I played it for ~30 hours and ran into that issue quite a handful time. It's like, you should wait for to play a single player game how they like.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can play the game when offline, you'll just be alone with bots (sorry, Drivatars) in the "lobby"/map. I don't think know if the game asks you to login if you start it offline, though.

after the servers are closed?

That's not happening any time soon. You can still play Forza Horizon 3 online, maybe even 2 and 1 but I am less sure about those. They delisted these games because of licenses but they didn't kill servers (and even less revoked the games, everyone hates you Ubisoft).
So, no, I don't think the account requirement is dropping any time soon.

Might have to do with your specs than the game itself.
Played both and I had no issues with The Crew 2. I've also played FH4 through Family Share few years ago and I had no issues, I was even playing on High settings with my old rig (R7 2700 + Vega 64).
Microsoft does know how to make performance in their games though, at least that.

My point being - its working well on way slower system them yours. Most likely its poorly optimized for some kind of element in your system. Not denying that. Doesnt mean that crew is "poorly optimized, simple as" .. And same goes for you - just because it runs bad for you doesnt mean the game is inherintly badly optimized and it stutters for everyone.

I have no love for ubisoft. I enjoy crew but it is nothing extraordinary. Seems wierd to even bring up crew apart from just hating on ubisoft and the game. IMO I dont see why you would expect bad performance in FH with 3080ti and i7. Just sharing my experience same as others who obviously did not have as bad as an experience as you.

PS. when you say crew ran bad for you and ask for suggestions about FH, how are people able to give you constructive feedback when crew ran fine for them? Thats why the first questions comes down to whether your system is an issue.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Completed both. Before saying anything else, I have to say I didn't encounter stuttering or any such issues with The Crew 2.

FH4 felt like an improvement in almost every way, including performance.
There is an option which adapts graphics, making sure you run the game at stable 60 fps while having the best quality possible at any given time and it worked perfectly.

Most of the online events and multiplayer run well, without any issues, however when I say most - there is a certain group of events called Online Adventures. For some reason their loading screens can last from a couple of minutes to literal hours (in a span of one such adventure if I remember correctly there are a total of 6 loading screens, might be a bit off on the number of them).. which makes it a living hell playing them or trying to get achievements connected to them if that's your thing.

Overall the game just feels so much better than The Crew 2 and other than Online Adventures, I don't think you should have any real problems concerning its performance.

I have the Windows Store version, but I believe the Steam version downloads it from there anyway and just uses Steam as a launcher (it's possible I'm wrong on this, but that's how all of the MS games I do own on Steam have worked).

Loading times can be a bit long, but otherwise it has run very smoothly for me. The only issue I have run into is that certain 2-part "story" challenges can bug out if you try to restart from the checkpoint after reaching the end, and will respawn you someplace ridiculous. But immediately restarting again fixes that.

I'm running an older computer, but specs are still decent (i5-9700K, RTX 2080, 32GB ram) - I'm running it at max settings in 4K without any noticeable performance issues (no stuttering, frame rate drops, crashes, etc).

The game is a title under the "Xbox Play Anywhere" program, meaning that if you purchase it for Xbox One/Series in the Microsoft Store, you can also play it on PC and share the same game saves, no matter the platform you're using to play it (One/Series/PC).

Also, the Ultimate Edition is with a –80% discount right now:

Was such a good game. Glad I 100% it. 😃

Warning for completionists, some achievements are not obtainable. You have to roll back time and date to make it work.

Have no idea. I never tried it. I only heard it's possible.

From a quick search online, changing time/date itself will not get you banned: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/will-changing-the-system-date-to-change-season-in/ee313ef9-ef6b-405d-9381-9933cc210858
Apparently it has any effect only if you are playing offline (and from what I gathered some of the challenges require online connection which means you can't even complete all of them and get cars connected to them).
What will get you banned (based on what people commented they got banned from) is abusing it to get either the very rare preorder cars or cars not yet released .

bumping my own discussion because this could be the LAST SALE before delisting

Yeah this is most likely to be the last sale, since it will be removed on December 15, so it's better to not risk it. Also I recommend buying the supreme edition since it comes with 2 exclusive expansions.

You guys sure do play a risky game to wait for an even bigger sale for a game that's getting delisted soon hah.

Well, seems like it ain't getting any cheaper. I already spent 20€ on this pretty good racing game and got 50 hours out of it. I'd say it was plenty worth it.

Yeah its the same pricing now as last time it had a discount.
I bit the bullet back then and have 36 hours in it, and I'm far from done.
Its a game that has that just-one-more feel to it, easy to churn away hours in.

I recently just learned how to drift properly in Beamng.drive and Wreckfest, perhaps I should try FH4 again and see how well I do there. Besides, the game is apparently one of the most fun for drifting.

It's a great game, not perfect, but great nonetheless.

Hah, if there is one thing I find boring in FH4, then its the drifting ;-P
Differing tastes, different people :)

But, I've had BeamNG.drive on my wishlist for ages, how is it in terms of singleplayer, campaign etc?
Mostly a sandbox?

It was mostly a sandbox game. The career mode has gotten a lot more polish but it's still far from being completed. I'd say it's about a good 10 or so hours of fun, maybe more. I'm not sure how much there is to it but it's pretty good now. The game lacks any sort of depth really because the career mode is essentially just European Truck Simulator with goofy physics. I love it for the sandbox and I just love racing and crashing the car and I am all for simulation stuff. I paid the full 22€ for it and I've enjoyed it a lot. I'd say it's worth picking up on sale right now, it's really a well made game that gets a ton of love and a few updates every now and then.

As they told in the Newsletter : "Until delisting it will be 80% off"

So no need to wait, this is the best discount

Sale ends in 4,5 hours, I'm not 100% sure if it'll be extended until the 15th of december (when it gets delisted), so I'd recommend buying now if you want it.
According to the newsletter, it will be 80% off until the delisting date. But on Steam it says it ends in 4 and a half hours (unless it gets extended ofc).

I'm sure you'll do fine. There's still ways to get it, but you need to play with Windows Time. Rolling back time and such. It's a bit unconventional.
