I would buy something lower spec because, despite what marketing would have you believe, lower spec cards can run today's games very well. Who needs extra FPS you can't see? Lower spec cards only stop being able to perform several years down the line, at which point you'll be looking to buy a better card anyway. I'd go with AMD, their cards tend to be more cost efficient and since switching from Nvidia I am still a happy camper :)

Gtx 1060 6GB would be the perfect choice! Btw it shouldn't be in short supply since people are buying Rx series for mining.

So I have this problem. My graphics card died last week (Geforce 560Ti 448) and all the cards I like (GTX 1060, AMD 580) are in short supply due to the mining craze. The card I had ran fine until now, but I would like to modernise a bit now that it's become neccessary.
Currently I use my laptop, but it has limited USB ports and a Quadro card because I use it mostly for CAD, so it's not ideal. I'm by no means a gaming addict, I can last a long time without my usual sim and strategy titles.
So what do I do? Do I save up for a 1070/1080, do I wait, or should I buy something lower spec?
A gib for your thoughts
