Maybe it's your friend or one of them in disguised account?
Also you can ask your friend from where he knows that guy.

Maybe it's just a random guy deciding to be really nice? I've done similar things with online in-game items...

You won't get banned for accepting a gift.Take it, just be careful about the links you click and information you give.

Well if you trade it away of couse you can get banned. But if you add the traded game to your library, I don't think Steam can ban you for that. That's what I meant.
Well who'd pick his/her favorite game on Steam and trade it away anyway -_-

So you can be banned if you win a giveaway here that turns out to be stolen?

I've never heard of anyone's account being locked because of a game being revoked.. I got a few games revoked because someone who traded me turned out to be a crook or something like that. That was 3 months after the transaction took place, all I was told from Steam is the payment was contested and cancelled. I placed a request and got back the items I traded originally which were TF2 keys and a Half-Life Complete Pack.. I think I was lucky to get them back mostly because they were Valve items. I'm really picky when it comes to trade involving keys since then..

Keep us informed of where this goes, I'm quite curious... Just be careful, and ask here if you have a doubt about something...

It happened to me once. Someone added me and gave a game.
I was basically speechless. Totally unexpected.
But I would find it suspicious too, it's not something that happens every day.

Ah yes, the perks of having mammary glands
But on a more serios note, he's might just revoke it later, i dunno. Some people have weird sense of humor so that might be his thing. Regardless of what are his true intentions it's not a good idea to accept anything from him right now

I found him and added him, he asked me if I want a game and I told him yes. He asked me which, and I said "Assassin's Creed V: The Return of Ezio"... And he said "Okay"... Then he said that I will have to give him a game now and that it was CS:GO. I am trolling him. lol

I once bought a friend borderlands 2 because I could afford it and he had gotten scammed during a trade. That being said, I gift my steam friends lots of games but never just add random people to gift them (however maybe I should do that to get rid of my list of unredeemed steam games).

For me this raises a red flag for account theft. More and more are people using a gift excuse to hijack accounts. I'm speaking out of experience, though in my case i got a high end keylogger on my system by a yet unknown source though in a certain way this was again related to me "recieving a gift".
The guy is probably going to scam you in some certain way, maybe a very obvious way (which is likely considering his lack of communication) but always be on alert with things like this and don't be greedy.

There isn't much too it, they can hijack your account simply by showing the proof of purchase for the game they gift you, seeing as how shitty steam support is, it would really surprise me if they even take the time to check if the request comes from the same IP that logs into the steam account tbh.

Say a game name and see what the catch is after that. Then it may become obvious what the scam is, if a scam at all.

Idk... when i was new to steam, i got a few free games from when winter sales had game drops instead of cards. and i owned tf2 and that was it. got a game from the drop i didnt want, added a random person and gave it away. :/ b4 sg was made too lol.

I was looking to trade a game on steamtrades and some random dude added me on Steam and gave me the game for free. Nice guy. And by the way if you check other comments you'll see that this guy wants CS:GO in exchange for the game you ask, but he wants you to go first. So, yes he is a scammer.

Today I got a Steam friend request from a guy whom I have one mutual friend with. Said friend is an IRL friend and not many of my real life friends link their Facebook to Steam so it's often hard to match profiles to names. I figured I might know the guy so I accepted his request. Almost immediately, this conversation took place.
I'm not necessarily asking for advice on whether or not to accept the guy's offer, because I've seen enough threads asking for this type of advice. What I am interested in, is reasons why this might be a scam. Sure, the idea of free games is appealing to everybody but when it's so one sided (or in the case of this guy, he does not give a good reason why he wants to send me a game) red flags are raised. I know that anything he sends may be revoked later and possibly cause my account to get locked, but that seems like a very petty thing to do and doesn't result in any real benefit to the would-be scammer. Or are there other ways this might be a scam? Once, about a year ago I got gifted a game out of the blue by someone I didn't know and it never got revoked or anything, I guess he was just a nice guy. I know not everyone is like that though, and since this time the guy isn't giving me a good reason for his offer I'm wondering if he is dodgy but I'm drawing blanks on what kind of trick he may be trying to pull. His account is not even 4 months old, he is Steam level 1 and has 3 games (two FTP and Gmod) which seems even more suspicious, I'm thinking it may even be an alt account.
