I personally just don't get why people find it so annoying but shrug to each their own I guess. I don't normally comment on GAs, especially now that so many people are complaining about it. But I do still say thanks for group GAs and Whitelist stuff since those feel a bit more personal.
Doesn't mean I will be really creative; in fact, a lot of my thanks comments are pretty generic but nevertheless, typed by hand. I get where you're coming from about the whole "it means something to us" thing. Maybe my "thanks so much!" is just an annoyance to the GA creator but I typed that because I felt that particular GA merited a thanks when I don't normally do so. But you just can't please everyone so you just gotta do what you do with your best intentions. Whether others see it the same way as you is out of your control and not worth worrying too much about.
I actually like seeing even a "Ty" on a GA so kinda makes me sad that the general trend is going towards no "thanks". :(

The screenshot below are from my notification feed from the last hour. MRLW, regardless of the issue of scripts/bots (which unlike you most people agree is annoying), I suggest you try having many giveaways at the same time to be able to feel a little more empathy toward people who find generic thanks to be something that makes the site (and specifically the notification feed) more difficult than it should be.
One message is really enough (unless of course the comments include something extra beyond the generic part).

It could be, but there's no thanks button. Reading the giveaway description would be a good start. Using common sense and writing a single thank you, mentioning that this is for all giveaways, would be another good thing to do.
I saw people mentioning the Mark-as-Read as an easy solution, well, it's not. I'm quite active in the forums and commonly have many giveaways running in parallel, so my typical notification feed can include a few dozens of comments, half of which being generic thanks. Pressing the Mark-as-Read will only make it more difficult for me to find the new "real" comments. You know the saying "לשפוך את התינוק עם המים"? This would be a prime example.

אתה דובר עברית? חבל שלא אמרת :-)
any way all you said is solid, tho you do know you can filter your inbox right?
top left side of the page?
Category
so basicly, you can run over the forum comments, and mark the rest.
and tho i dont get to make a lot of giveaway, its not that hard to go over your giveaway page and spot the relevant ones (as you do it any way as it impotent to you)
i know its not perfect, i know you represent those who dont like it.
but i also know that we dont like how you act as well to our comments.
so the good sulotion will be a thanks button, until then (if ever) mutual tolerance is the only solution :-)
ושבוע טוב :-)

But isn't the most logical thing to do is to let users know via the description that you do not want comments in your giveaway? I know from what I've seen in the past that this tends to work pretty good, on private giveaways at least.
Like I said in my previous post, if there are no mention of commenting in a giveaway's description, I'll automatically assume that the user will enjoy a kind word for their generosity.

I do it with all my public giveaways (see this one for my latest template). For some reason in whitelist or invite-only giveaways people tend to use common sense more often so it's less of an issue, as they normally only say thanks in one comment, or better yet - write something non-generic (this is one of the things I love the most about creating giveaways, so it's more than appreciated).

O.o
From my experience, it is only when a nerve has been touched that someone feels the need to defend themselves with so much speech
from my experience when people dont think about there action a nerve is touched , and all that "speech" is ment to get both sides to stop judge and be more tolerance to each other - which is the truth by the way.

Haven't read anything else in this, but often, if I'm feeling unimaginative, I'll add a short version of the user's name, so that they know it (probably) wasn't a bot. A name like yours is harder to do this with, since it's so short, but for example, I might use a little wordplay with it: "Thank you Mr. LW!" in place of a regular "Thank you!" or "Thank you MRLW!", either of the latter two being examples that could easily be written by a boring, lifeless, unfeeling, and uncaring bot.

MRLW dont get it the wrong way, i do think you should say thank you, and i do think people should not judge others especially for things like saying thank you or not, and im pro tolerance to all (and peace etc).
but i also think its not worth the fight over it, each to his own ;)
so here is what i think

i got today from a nice and polite person (which i have nothing against him) this message - to my thanks:
i replied him with this words:
"well its actually not a bot, its hand writing, also please dont take it as a disrespect, but it is my choice of how to say thanks and what words to use on that thanks, and for that i dont see any reason to "invent the wheel" over and over any time i want to say a simple "thank you" for a person.
i say thanks, because thats is the way i was thought. and i say it like this as thats is the way im comfortable with and see fit.
as i dont recall limiting you or any other one on how to say thanks... or even saying or not saying thanks at all. i think it is only fair that you (or any one else for the matter) respect other people words, even if you think its wrongly applied, and even if you think it has no meaning, it has a meaning to us!
one last words, you should stop judging others "ways of saying" and focus on what they actually say.:-)"
each for is own way.
so for all of you, who enter the same GIVEAWAYS as i am, and feel offended by my thanks and by how it is look like - im sorry, but you should respect yourself at least (if not us) and pay attention to meaning of the thanks, and not to how it was writing by your understanding.
have a nice day SG
edit:
im really trying to get to all of the comments..but if i miss few im really sorry :-)
edit 2:
the person who is about isnt the giveaway creator, but another user nor did the creator mentioned any thing about "thanks" policy.
edit 3:
after few more comments with the fellow, he actually a nice man, i still dont feel what he did was right, but his intention (as cleared by him) were good :-)
conclusion:
we should pay attention to what we write/say to each other...
