So I downloaded Fable Anniversary maybe a day or two ago. I noticed it wanted to update so I paused it for a while. While I paused it I tried out the game and it worked (in the menu that is, I didn't start the game). Now, after leaving on my computer overnight, I download the update and now it wont work. It crashes at the start and brings me to the desktop with the sound still on. Whenever I click on the game it brings me to the game for a split second before sending me to the desktop. I can do this over and over and it constantly brings me to the desktop, it doesn't say the .exe has stopped working or anything.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I would preferably not want to delete the whole game and redownload it because that would take two nights.

Try disabling Steam overlay for this game, it might help, if it didn't, you can search for the problem and/or ask the developer on Fable's Steam community hub.

Turns out I verified the integrity cache (that didn't help though, still had the problem) and restarted steam and turned my laptop on and off and it worked. It was a real ass to fix though, my laptop had to restart twice because steam wasn't turning on. Btw just in case, where do I disable steam overlay and what does it do? For future reference

Well, whenever I get display problems with games, I try this and it works sometimes depending on the reason behind the problem, here's how: I copied the instructions from a Steam forum instead of retyping them.

1) Click on Steam and click on the "Settings" button. Click on the "In-Game Settings" tab.
2) Uncheck the box next to "Enable Steam Community In-Game" and click OK.
3) Disable the Steam Overlay on specific games only by right-clicking on the game title, click on "Properties" and uncheck "Enable Steam Community In-Game" in the "General" tab.

That's how to turn it off for all games or just for one from the game list in your Steam library.
