Game: Super Hexagon
Gifted: 8 years ago
Gifted by: Pastaman11223344 (last online 6 years ago☠️)
Thoughts: A minimalist two-button game about fitting a shape through holes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Music kicks leagues of ass. Unfortunately, I couldn't play this for very long at a time without getting motion-sick. Looks like a game I could get seriously addicted to if it wasn't for my newly discovered intolerance to lowpoly spinning shapes. It's cheap as hell and available on phones as well if that's more your style, so I'd recommend it.
Game: Deus Ex Machina 2
Gifted: 9 years ago
Gifted by: Annenouk (still active on the site❤️)
Thoughts: More of a series of slightly interractive surrealist music videos than a traditional game. You pretty much just listen to music/narration while your character walks, crawls or floats through a series of hallways. The only gameplay is moving the character, either trying to avoid, or collide with certain objects. It's really bizarre, and features the last performance by legendary Sir Christopher Lee of all people. I found the whole experience rather boring to be honest, I wasn't really jiving with the music, and the story was pretty snoozeworthy. On the plus side, what other game lets you play as a sperm cell or a naked teenager running over pimples that spatter.. juice on the screen. I can enjoy really artsy games but this one was a bit much - I respect the hell out of it for existing, though!
Game: The Journey Down: Chapter One
Gifted: 7 years ago
Gifted by: CraigSixtyFour (still active on the site❤️)
Thoughts: The Journey Down is a Point & Click Adventure game with funky caribbean vibes. I haven't played a lot of games in this genre, which probably helped me enjoy this one more, and it's quite simple to grasp for noobs like me once you get into the right headspace. There are a few cryptic bullshit solutions to puzzles, but other than that it's very doable. I adored the game's artstyle - the mix of 2D and 3D made for some gorgeous environments - and the world is brought to life by some hilarious characters (with generally solid voice acting), and a catchy soundtrack. Unfortunately chapter 1 is short, and I mean really short, only taking me about an hour and a half to complete. As soon as I started falling in love with this world and the characters, it was over. The titular 'journey' just doesn't appear in chapter 1, which is quite disappointing. This feels more like a prologue. Judging by the price of Chapter 2 and 3 (twice that of Chapter 1) I'm guessing that's where most of the meat is. Overall I quite enjoyed this one, and I look forward to playing the other chapters.
Game: Expert Rifleman - Reloaded
Gifted: 8 years ago
Gifted by: Ner72 (still active on the site❤️)
Thoughts: The first giveaway so far that had me asking myself ''why the hell did I join this?''. This is not a game, it's a ballistics simulator,
you select from different types of ammo, and a type of target, then stand around in a desert and shoot. There's statisticts and a calculator with information I don't understand, and my AD/HD-riddled brain couldn't stand to play it for long. For gun enthusiasts I'm sure this has some value, but it's not my thing.
Game: Murdered: Soul Suspect
Gifted: 8 years ago
Gifted By: LucasKane (still active on the site❤️)
Thoughts: In Murdered: Soul Suspect you play as the ghost of a criminal-turned-cop with bad tattoos. Your mission? To solve your own murder at the hands of an edgelord serial killer. Being a ghost really sucks, but comes with some benefits, like being able to walk through most walls, the ability to possess people to listen in on their thoughts, or even influencing them. The game takes place in modern day Salem, with the ghostly remains of objects and events from the past littered amongst the modern architecture. It's an interesting setting, and it's fun to explore. The game really shines in it's many mini-stories you can take part in, or just voyuristically listen in on. Helping other ghosts pass on by solving the circumstances surrounding their deaths is honestly more entertaining than following the main story. The writing is covered in a delightful layer of cheese, and the voice acting is corny as all hell, which some might see as flaws, but I found it quite endearing. I had fun with this one!
Game: Nightfall Escape
Gifted: 8 years ago
Gifted by: BazzingaBear (last online 1 year ago☠️)
Thoughts: A First-person horror game where you play as a journalist going into a spooky mansion. I hated my time with this one, and didn't stick with it for long. It feels sluggish to play, my first couple of minutes were spent getting stuck on bushes and trees. The voice acting is bad, and the actors are clearly foreign and trying to hide their accents - but it sounds really off. My biggest problem with the short amount of time I spent with the game, is that it's just not very scary. I'll probably go back to this one eventually, and give it a shot when I've got more patience, because I think even bad games are worth playing, because how else am I to judge what a good game is?
Game: Gyromancer
Gifted: 8 years ago
Gifted by: SnarkovX (still active on the site❤️)
Thoughts: A match 3 Puzzle RPG hybrid by Square Enix and Pop Cap. It's essentially Bejeweled Twist, but you command different monsters and engage in battles of attrition against enemies, building up your attack metres by matching gems. The story is uninteresting, but the monsters are beautifully designed and the game is challenging as hell, which kept me interested. I'll keep this one installed and go back to it whenever I feel like puzzling a bit.

Anyone clearing their own backlog deserves recognition. That said I know it can get daunting at times. Here's hoping you can persevere. Best of luck Johamburger!

The engine that keeps me playing my wins for me is PAGYWOSG - if you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it

My pleasure! The Discord community is also great. I literally look forward to the turn of the month to choose my next win to play :)

Also came down to comment about PAGYWOSG, I've been in it for a while. BLAEO is also recommended as it really helps out with organization and you can see what other people play.
This is my profile, for example: https://www.backlog-assassins.net/users/Zelrune

In addition to PAGYWOSG and BLAEO there's also Play or Pay

Super Hexagon is a blast(same with VVVVV).
I likely have close to a thousand hours on Super Hexagon.... 100% of it on my phone, a few minutes at a time really helped pass the lunch break for when solitaire, mahjong... or the ultra spicy VN's(some scenes... I had to wait till I got home to go through)
I had to check the steam store page and I own all of this devs games already! Only one that is a love/hate is dicey dungeons.

I'm glad the games were all right, lots more to come!
I honestly don't remember where I found it. I think I just searched 'funny mario picture' or something like that. Felt an insant connection to it, because of shows like Ren & Stimpy like you said! ^^

I've been on this site for nearly 10 years (not consistently, I left for quite a few years thinking I was a console gamer) and in that time I've won 144 games. It's with great shame that I must admit that I haven't actually played many of those games. So, I thought it'd be interesting to try them all out, and then give away the same games (or similar ones if they can't be obtained from reputable key sellers). I'll be jotting down my thoughts on the games I play - going from oldest win to most recent - as well as highlighting the people who gifted them to me, and whether or not they're still active on the site. Below you'll find the latest game(s) I played, as well as any currently active giveaways. The giveaways are locked behind jigsaw puzzles. No level requirement. Have fun! :-D
