Totally agreed. Personally, I never really liked the whole series, but 4 is where I completely lost interest in it.

But your experience as well as mines is subjective, not just most, but EVERY gamer i've met agrees RE:4 brought the series back in a new exciting way and is one of the best games of all time, personally i've played it through and through at least 5 or 6 times without getting bored and i know quite a few people who have done more than that. I'm no fanboy, i just like great games and RE:4 was just that. Almost every review agrees that it was an amazing game, many going so far as to say it was the best in the series, widely regarded as one of the most influential games of the decade as well as being the best-selling Resident Evil title ever and whether you agree with them or not, they are the most objective source available and thats a fact.

Yeah and whats the word of professional reviewers who grade games for a living against a few guys you know.

There's 2 major issues that always come when discussing the quality of a game in a series.

1) It always gets compared to the other games (obviously) and people have difficulty distinguishing between the game being good, and the game being true to the series. For example: FF-XII may not have been a particularly good FF game, but it was still a pretty good RPG imo.

2) The "old" fans will always view the original ones as better than the new ones due to the rose-tinted glasses known as nostalgia. Example for this: I loved Goldeneye on N64, and have always claimed that it's one of the greatest shooters of all time. Recently I tried to go back and play it and realized that the controls for it are horrendous, and the reason that it was the best back then was that nothing better had come out yet (that's not to say that Goldeneye isn't still an amazing game).

That being said though, everyone definitely gets their own opinions and I can understand people who liked the original RE games not liking the newer ones. My greatest fear with the game though is Capcom themselves who have been making quite a few bad/odd choices lately because they feel that their games don't appeal to the American population any more and so they need to revamp themselves (and let's not forget the RE:Mercenaries save file incident).

While I'll admit to never playing a Resident Evil game in my life, I follow the plot pretty closely, and I don't think the Los Plagas was a good idea, personally. The T-Virus (and any variants) just seems more feasible and terrifying (at least for the standard zombies, not so much for the specials) than prehistoric Cthulhu parasites living in people's brains. That said, RE6 looks like it'll have a mixture of virus victims and Cthulhu attacks, so that's awesome.
